Job Description
The Senate Sergeant at Arms (SAA) is currently seeking a talented Superintendent of Mail Processing Facility to oversee the safety and security of incoming mail.
Work includes managing the day-to-day operations of the offsite Senate Mail Processing Facility, including overseeing the security of the facility and its operations, supervising facility employees, assigning work, and maintaining inventories and work records.
The incumbent has contact with various SAA departments and vendors to resolve problems and respond to needs in providing secure mail service to the Senate community.
Work is performed with considerable independence under the general supervision of the Deputy Postmaster.
Key Accountabilities / Essential Job Duties
Senior management work overseeing the safety and security of incoming US Senate mail. Manages / activates emergency response plans when an item is determined to have suspicious or hazardous characteristics;
notifies appropriate authorities. Develops, updates and implements facility / mail and package processing policies, procedures, Continuity Plans, SMF forms, SOPs and Material Data Sheets (MDS).
Establishes, proposes and reviews budget requirements for the mail processing facility. Prepares and reviews employee evaluations, initiates disciplinary actions, makes hiring and promotion recommendations.
Manage, review, identify and coordinates employee development and training; develops and coaches the Supervisor, Lead Mail Specialists, Mail Specialists and Messenger Driver.
Other duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Required Education
High School / GED.

Required Work Experience
5 years supervisory / management experience in mail facility operations and three years’ experience in testing mail for biological / chemical agents;
or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
To be employed by a Senate employing office in a paid position in the continental United States an individual must :
