Position Summary
This position is to coordinate with the tribal community to revitalize elements of UAIC
culture and area history and improve communication about existing traditions and
language. This may be accomplished in several ways, including but not limited to
communication through written narratives and guidebooks, visual media and films,
staging cultural-related events, encouraging artists, promoting tribal participation,
and coordinating with outside agencies, colleges, and universities. The position will
report to the Tribal Historic Preservation Director and coordinate closely with the
Tribal Historic Preservation Officer.
Summary of Job Functions

Essential Functions

  • Convey cultural information to the Tribal and outside community in visual

and/or written formats.

  • Coordinate with other Tribal Departments, particularly Education
Department and Community Education Department
  • Identify and preserve visual media and visual and audiovisual files.
  • Identify ways to convey UAIC culture and area history to tribal members.
  • Conduct documentary and oral history interviews with tribal elders and
other knowledgeable tribal members.
  • Organize events focusing on cultural heritage, including preparing programs
and agendas.
  • Write requests for proposals for outside vendors to develop requested
materials, and ability to oversee responses.
  • Coordinate with Cultural Regulatory and Tribal Heritage staff to identify
meaningful and creative mitigation measures that result in cultural-related
products, intended for tribal and non-tribal audiences.
  • Interact with Tribal members and Tribal agency staff in a professional and

respectful manner.

Non-essential Functions

  • Knowledge of social media and how to promote events and information.
  • Assist Director and THPO in providing recommendations and appropriate
language to agencies on tribal consultation efforts.
  • Coordinate, supervise, and train interns.
All other duties designated by the Tribal Historic Preservation Director
Qualifications

Minimum requirements

  • B.A. or B.S. in anthropology, Native American studies, media studies,

communication, or related field.

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in working in a tribal or cultural-related
setting or on tribal projects.
  • Experience and examples of professional production of graphically designed
products such as books, brochures, etc.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Previous experience in working and coordinating with California Indian
tribes.
  • Ability to convey information in visual and written formats.

Must maintain STRICT CONFIDENTIALITY of all UAIC information received in trust
and confidence. Indian Preference does apply.
