Position Summary
Under general supervision, the Elementary Teacher educates students in multiple
subjects. The Teacher is also required to plan, implement, monitor, and assess a
classroom instructional program. This includes using the school-adopted curriculum
and the provided scope and sequence of instruction that serves all students with a
focus on multi-subject instruction and cultural awareness. It also includes lesson
designs, lesson planning, and keeping track of gradebook data. The Elementary Grade
level Teacher must promote an understanding of the school rules and the United
Auburn Indian Community’s cultural heritage and values. This position must
routinely use tact, poise, and good judgment while communicating with internal and
external contacts, offices, and organizations.
Job Functions

Essential Functions

  • Develops lesson plans and prepares courses which are appropriate to the needs,
experience and existing knowledge of the students’ individual and/or classroom
instruction at the elementary level and is consistent with the goals and mission
of the UAIC Schoolwide Action Plan and its governing body.
  • Teaches reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art,
health, physical education, and music to students utilizing the course of study
adopted and approved by the governing body.
  • Assesses students’ progress, records their development and progress and
maintains appropriate documentation that is communicated to parents at each
grading period and in cases of unsatisfactory work or other instructional issues.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to create and
maintain effective environments for student learning while promoting an
understanding of the school rules and the United Auburn Indian Community’s
culture and historic background.
  • Participates in curricular and extracurricular school programs, assessment and
development activities, student supervision and control, and staff meetings.
  • Researches and develops lessons which support and include Native American
traditions, develop cultural awareness and achieve high academic standards.
  • Utilizes scope and sequence for multi-subject classroom instruction that serves
all students.
  • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members
in assessing and helping students solve health, emotional, social and learning
problems, educational history, and learning behaviors in conjunction with the
school administrative office.
  • Provides initial and classroom assessments of students to determine educational
and subject matter levels and needs, learning styles, interests, and motivational
influences.
  • Communicates regularly with parents/guardians, and appropriate education
staff regarding the results of evaluation, classroom progress and if necessary,
recommendations for additional services and/or referrals. Other educational

staff may include educational specialists, Speech-language Pathologist, and the
Occupational Therapist.

  • Recommends and/or provides educational intervention, enrichment, and/or
experiences, as appropriate, based on assessments.
  • Plans and attends parent/teacher conferences, including Student Study Team
and IEP (Individual Educational Plan) meetings, as appropriate.
  • Plans, prepares, and provides individual, small group and classroom instruction
utilizing appropriate educational programs and materials based on the learning
needs and styles of the individual students.
  • Provides on-going assessment to determine student progress, effectiveness of
educational programs and materials, and the need for program modification.
  • Participates in whole-school reviews of policy and academic scope and sequence
and in the revision and formulation of guidelines.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and effective learning environment.
  • Makes recommendations to the principal regarding purchase of or
discontinuation of educational programs and materials.
  • Participates in continuing education appropriate for the job responsibilities and
implements new skills and abilities.

Non-essential Functions

  • Oversees groups of students during playground activities; assures safe outdoor
play.
  • Assists with disinfecting the classroom and high touch surface areas within the
school buildings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

curriculum development and classroom instruction.

  • Knowledge of child guidance principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of the scope and sequence for learning goals for specific grades as
well as across the grades.

techniques, multi-modality instruction, multi-modality learning activities, and
program/material modification.
  • Knowledge of Project Based Learning curriculum
  • Knowledge and implementation of appropriate and effective computer-assisted
learning activities.
  • Knowledge and implementation of motivational techniques and activities.
  • Knowledge of laws governing education services for public schools.
  • Advanced knowledge of multi-subjects including mathematics, grammar,

spelling, language and reading.

  • Advanced knowledge of proper English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation,
vocabulary, and handwriting.
  • Knowledge of educational programs and outreach programs in surrounding
area.
  • Knowledge of symptoms of communicable diseases and head lice.
  • Knowledge of MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of Google Suite.

Qualifications
Minimum requirements

  • Education:

o Bachelor's degree, including courses needed to meet credential

requirements and student teaching classroom experience.

  • Licenses and Certificates

o Valid Teaching Credential

  • Experience:

o Three years of experience in education

Preferred qualifications:

  • Direct experience working with Native American children or adults, or a

background in the philosophy regarding the education and health of

Native American children and adults.
