POSITION SUMMARY

The Therapist will be a Home Visitor in the Partnership for Families Program is responsible for coordinating mental health care services for the program’s clients in Los Angeles County. They will provide assessment and counseling/therapy to eligible young children and their caregivers as a member of a treatment team.

The Therapist identifies needs and coordinates sessions with clients for individual and dyadic therapeutic counseling. They will be a part of a unique multi-disciplinary team, and most services are provided in the field.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

Field Work

  • Provide in-home visits, therapeutic services, and clinical case management services to clients based upon approved service plan. (All home visits must be in-person)

  • Conduct intakes and initial assessments of young children and caregivers (e.g. fathers, teen parents, pregnant women, etc)

  • Assess family dynamics and home environment; prepare reports as needed

  • Provide linkages to services including but not limited to: alcohol and substance use treatment, childcare, domestic violence, health care, housing, regional center, special education, and cultural/traditional health services

  • Maintain aftercare follow-up and support/assistance to clients completing their programs/ treatment

  • Provide 24-hour availability and crisis intervention, as needed

Community Support

  • Partner and collaborate with other professionals in case planning such as clinicians, consulting specialists, and school representatives, DCFS, and others, as needed

  • Participate in Outpatient Staff meetings, Clinical Case Conferences, and other meetings as assigned

  • May conduct in-service training to staff and others as needed

Administration

  • Maintain client charts in a responsible manner, and meet all paperwork deadlines as required by DCFS, DMH and agency policy (e.g. complete case notes within 24 hours and discharge notes on a timely basis, etc.)

  • Arrange work schedule to benefit the program and clients with Director approval

  • Keep Director well-informed regarding activities, pending issues, and potential problems

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year clinical experience working with multiple-problem families (e.g. unemployment, poverty, substance abuse, homelessness, etc.)

  • Minimum 1 year clinical experience working with young children and their families (ages 0-5)

  • Knowledge and understanding of DCFS, child welfare, and/or related laws/programs

Required Education:

  • MA in clinical psychology, MSW or Ph.D./Psy.D. in psychology from an accredited graduate program

Certifications:

  • License eligible required

  • California license preferred

  • Eligible for a registration number from the Board of Behavioral Sciences or waiver from the State

Confidentiality:

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of client and personnel information adhering to HIPAA, professional codes of conduct, State of CA regulations, Privacy Act, and UAII policies and procedures 

  • This position has access to sensitive information, and a breach in confidentiality will be grounds for disciplinary action up to and including immediate termination

Communication/ Interpersonal Skills:

  • Possess the ability to communicate with others in a courteous and professional manner

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Proficient in English (Bilingual preferred)

Technology Skills:

  • Working knowledge of MS Office, Google Suite

  • Ability to use iPad

Other Skills:

  • Training in early childhood development and experience working in the birth to five field

  • Demonstrate ability to exercise a high level of judgment, accept supervision, and exercise a high level of accuracy and organization

  • Available to work evening and weekend hours as needed

  • Available and willing to travel as needed, travel time can be between 25-40%

POSITION PREFERENCES


  • Experience working with the American Indian/Alaskan Native community

  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations, community groups and performance-based government contracts

  • Knowledge of Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act (Public Law 93-638)

Work environment:

The work environment characteristics described here represent those employee encounters while performing the primary functions of this job. Normal office conditions exist, and the noise level in the work environment can vary from low to moderate.

Physical demands:

The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the primary functions of this job successfully. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk frequently, sit, bend, twist, talk, and hear. There are prolonged periods of sitting, keyboarding, reading, as well. The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include reading, distance, computer, and color vision. Talking and hearing are essential to communicate with staff and vendors.

Mental demands:

There are several deadlines associated with this position. The employee must also multi-task and interact with various people on various and, at times, complex issues. 

The incumbent must have successful coping mechanisms in place to cope with the mental demands of the Therapist position, including but not limited to high stress and anxiety-provoking situations.
