Unipak is a leading contract packager established in 1962 and under its current ownership since 1996. We specialize in powdered and liquid laundry products as well as industrial cleaning products. We have a diverse customer portfolio and service several major household brands. Along with packaging, we offer full a turnkey service to help customers get their products to retailers’ shelves. These services include, formulation, blending, and packaging design. We pride ourselves on our agility and ability to turn around projects as quickly as possible while providing the highest level of quality and value to our customers.

Ideal Candidate:

We are looking for an individual who embraces and drives change. They have strong technical skills in materials management as well as proven leadership abilities. Prior experience in leading and implementing improvement projects is required.

Job Title: Materials Manager

Job Summary:

The Materials Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of materials management within the organization, including procurement, inventory control, logistics, and warehouse management. They ensure that materials are procured at the right time, in the right quantity, and at the best possible price to meet production schedules and customer demand while optimizing inventory levels and minimizing costs.

This is a new position in Unipak and reports directly to the Operations Manager. Position may be required to take on projects and duties outside normal scope as needed.

Responsibilities:

Procurement Management:

- Develop and implement procurement strategies to source materials and supplies from reliable suppliers at competitive prices.

- Negotiate contracts and terms with suppliers to secure favorable pricing, terms, and delivery schedules.

- Monitor supplier performance and address any issues or concerns to ensure consistent quality and reliability of materials.

Inventory Control:

- Develop and implement inventory management policies and procedures to optimize inventory levels while minimizing carrying costs and stockouts.

- Conduct regular inventory audits and reconcile discrepancies to ensure accuracy and integrity of inventory records.

- Analyze inventory data and trends to identify opportunities for improvement and implement strategies to reduce excess or obsolete inventory.

Logistics Management:

- Coordinate transportation and logistics activities to ensure timely delivery of materials to production facilities or customers.

- Optimize transportation routes and modes to minimize costs and maximize efficiency.

- Monitor and track shipments to ensure on-time delivery and resolve any issues or delays that may arise.

Warehouse Management:

- Supervise warehouse operations, including receiving, storing, picking, packing, and shipping of materials.

- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and best practices in warehouse operations.

- Implement lean principles and continuous improvement initiatives to streamline processes and increase efficiency in warehouse operations.

Supplier Relationship Management:

- Cultivate strong relationships with key suppliers to foster collaboration and drive continuous improvement in quality, delivery, and cost.

- Collaborate with suppliers to develop and implement supplier development programs aimed at improving supplier performance and capabilities.

- Address supplier issues or disputes in a timely and professional manner to maintain positive relationships and ensure continuity of supply.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, sales, and finance, to ensure alignment of materials management activities with overall business objectives.

- Communicate regularly with internal stakeholders to provide updates on materials availability, lead times, and any issues impacting production or customer orders.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, engineering or a related field. Professional certifications (e.g., CPIM, CSCP) is a plus.

Experience: Several years of experience in materials management, procurement, or supply chain management, preferably in a manufacturing or distribution environment. Experience with ERP systems and inventory management software, Microsoft Office and a high proficiency in Excel is required.

Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.

Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interact with suppliers, internal stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.

Leadership Skills: Strong leadership abilities with the ability to lead and motivate teams to achieve goals and drive continuous improvement.

Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Attention to Detail: Attention to detail and accuracy in managing inventory records, purchase orders, and other materials management documentation.

Problem-Solving Skills: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to quickly identify issues, develop solutions, and implement corrective actions.

Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities and thrive in a dynamic and challenging work environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
