DESCRIPTION

The Union County Probate and Juvenile Judge is now hiring a full-time Deputy Clerk to provide clerical support for Juvenile Court operations and functions. This position works under the direction of the Chief Deputy Clerk, and primary work duties include the following: prepares docket or calendar of cases to be called; examines legal documents submitted to court for adherence to court procedures, prepares case folders and files or routes documents; coordinates schedules between Probate Court staff and other agencies (e.g. judges, magistrates, attorneys, sheriff's office, child support agency, etc.).

QUALIFICATIONS

Completion of secondary education or equivalent and one (1) years of experience; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED: The following are examples only and are not intended to be all inclusive:
Personal computer, applicable computer software, printer, copy machine, fax machine, receipt printer, and other standard office equipment.
INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS OR PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORKING CONDITIONS:
The employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment (e.g., toner, correction fluid, etc.); is exposed to possible injury due to unclean or unsanitary conditions; has contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons; has exposure to hazardous driving conditions; has to work irregular hours.
Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered sedentary to light work.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

For purposes of 42 USC 12101:
(1) Coordinate hearing schedules between magistrates, judges, attorneys, child support agency, and sheriff's office; perform case management (e.g. schedule hearings, set up file, preparing hearing paperwork, sending out summons to parties, calculate court costs, etc.); update and enter case information in accordance with departmental policies and procedures; respond to routine inquiries from the public and officials; perform routine clerical tasks (e.g. time stamping filings, retrieve/send faxes, make copies, etc.); answer and direct incoming phone calls.
(2) Bailiff Court hearings; balance cash drawer; prepare bank deposits
(3) Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
(4) Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
(5) Performs other related duties as assigned.
(6) Attends staff meetings as assigned.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE CHARACTERISTICS

Ability to: Carry out instructions in written, oral, or picture form; deal with problems involving few variables within familiar context; recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate action; read, copy, and record figures accurately; add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers; prepare accurate documentation; copy material accurately and recognize grammatical and spelling errors; respond to routine inquiries from public and/or officials; communicate effectively; understand a variety of written and/or verbal communication; work alone on most tasks; lift file boxes; handle sensitive inquiries from and contacts with officials and general public; maintain records according to established procedures; develop and maintain effective working relationships; perform job safely.
