Competitive annual salary of $165,885 to $176,944, depending on qualifications REPORTS TO: ManagerFSLA STATUS: ExemptCLASSIFICATION: Regular Non-Merit; Serves at the discretion of the Athens-Clarke County ManagerPAY GRADE: Not classifiedSAFETY SENSITIVE: NoPurpose of JobThe Deputy Manager acts as the centralized point of coordination to enhance public safety, infrastructure, and communication. The Deputy Manager is a critical and highly visible leader on the Executive Management Team, supporting the Manager in creating a desirable community that provides high quality of life services. The Deputy Manager provides leadership through collaboration, teamwork, and active involvement in the management of the Unified Government. This position, as assigned, acts as the Manager in his or her absence.Job Related RequirementsWORK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm with regular evening and weekend hours and events. Some overnight travel may be required. May be required to work on religious holidays. Regular and predictable attendance is required. Must work cooperatively with others. When requirements include vehicle operation, responsible for the safety, readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by ACCGov’s safe driving policy. Emergency PositionThis position is designated as an emergency position that requires your attendance at work under all types of emergency conditions. Some examples of emergencies include inclement weather, utility failure, fire or other forced evacuations or as determined by the Manager.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Bachelor’s degree in political science, public administration, business administration, or a related field with a minimum of eight years of progressively responsible local government management experience or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.Six years local government supervisory experience in a medium-sized jurisdiction is required.Must possess a valid driver’s license. Master’s degree preferred. Final candidates must successfully pass the pre-employment process that includes a thorough background investigation of employment, educational history, driving history, criminal history, and credit history.Assigned DepartmentsDepartments assigned to this position include, but are not limited to, the following: Police Department; Fire & Emergency Services; Corrections;Transportation & Public Works;Public Utilities Department; SPLOST;Airport; andPublic Information Office.

(ADA) MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including a computer, calculator, and copier. Must be able to use body members to work, move, or carry objects or materials. Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of administrative, technical, or professional languages including engineering, legal, counseling, accounting, personnel, and architectural terminology.NUMERICAL APTITUDE: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract totals; to multiply and divide; to utilize and determine percentages; to compute discount, interest, profit and loss, ratio and proportion; to perform calculations involving variables, formulas, square roots and polynomials; and to perform statistical calculations which include frequency distributions, reliability and validity of tests, correlation techniques, factor analysis, and econometrics.FORM/SPATIAL APTITUDE: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape, visually with a computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.MOTOR COORDINATION: Requires the ability to coordinate hands, fingers, and eyes accurately in using office equipment. Requires the ability to use the keyboard, lift, bend, push, and pull objects or materials using body parts as the position necessitates.MANUAL DEXTERITY: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as a computer, calculator, and copier. Must have the ability to use one hand for twisting or turning motion while coordinating the other hand with different activities. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.COLOR DISCRIMINATION: May require the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color.INTERPERSONAL TEMPERAMENT: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
