Senior Accountant

Working under the direction of the CFO, the controller position is accountable for the accounting operations of the organization, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards.

JOB RESPONSIBLITIES:

1. Oversees the daily operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives
2. Ensures that payables are paid in a timely manner.
3. Ensures that payroll is processed in a timely manner
4. Provides for a system of management cost reports; calculate and issue timely financial and operating metrics
5. Ensures that periodic bank reconciliations are completed
6. Recommends benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations
7. Manages the production of the annual budget and forecasts
8. Coordinates the provision of information to auditors for the annual audit
9. Calculates variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
10. Complies with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
11. Provides financial analyses as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations
12. Maintains a system of controls over accounting transactions

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration. Accounting experience in health care environment highly preferred. Thorough knowledge of payroll, central purchasing, accounts payable and business taxes.

• Thorough knowledge and skills in application of basic accounting principles
• Ability to adhere to deadlines while producing accurate work; efficient time management skills
• Ability to perform assignments with minimal supervision;
• Ability to work successfully under highly stressful conditions;
• Ability to make sound, independent judgments based on scientific and/or ethical principles;
• Capability of adapting to varying workloads and work assignments on a constant basis;
• Effective comprehensive reading skills, strong communication skills, written and verbal.
• Must have a working knowledge of computers.
