The duties of this position are split between the needs of the two NASA projects that are funding this effort.
The first part of the position is as the radio science data expert for the Planetary Plasma Interactions (PPI) Node of NASA's Planetary Data System (PDS). This effort requires migrating historical raw Deep Space Network (DSN) radio science (RS) data described by PDS3 metadata to the new PDS4 metadata standard. Migration requires transforming the complex binary data structure of the raw data to one that is less complex and can be described in PDS4. This also includes working with both professional and citizen scientists who are generating data for the RadioJove project and archiving those data with the PDS.
The second part of the position involves working with NASA's Europa Clipper mission as the Science Planning and Sequencing Engineer (SPSE) for the Europa Clipper Magnetometer (ECM) at the ECM Instrument Operations Center (ISOC). This task involves implementing the ECM component of the Clipper science plan and making sure that the ECM commands required to make this happen are sent to the spacecraft at the appropriate times. Since this is a small team, this position also requires cross-training with other the other roles on the ECM operations team so that all functions can be performed when any team member is absent.
