PROGRAM ASSOCIATE

Equality Action Center

Classification: Class Code 2020 / Non-Exempt / Full-Time / Benefited / Represented

Anticipated hiring rate: $29.60 - 30.80 / hour

THE DEPARTMENT

Equality Action Center (EAC), housed at UC Law, San Francisco, is a leading national nonprofit and research organization devoted to advancing racial, gender and class equity at a structural level with concrete, evidence based-interventions. EAC’s current initiatives include leadership training programs for advancing women leaders; research, tools, and training partnerships to interrupt biasand increase opportunities in business, law, STEM, construction trades, architecture, and other industries; and bridging the diploma divide to fix the relationship between college and noncollege voters.

EAC grew out of the Center for WorkLife Law, another research center at UC Law San Francisco.

THE ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Equality Action Center employs a Program Associates who provide administrative support, ensure smooth running of daily operations, and work closely with the Center’s Director, Senior Vice President to support Equality Action Center’s groundbreaking work in pursuit of gender and racial equity.

The Program Associate will support EAC’s directors and other staff members in a range of administrative and project tasks, including administrative support, scheduling, and other executive assistance for EAC’s directors, as well as general office functions. Additional responsibilities will vary based on the Program Associate’s qualifications and EAC’s needs, but may include website and social media maintenance, event planning, project management, non-profit administration, and/or occasional assistance with research and writing.

This is a one-year contract appointment, with the possibility of renewal.

Typical duties and responsibilities are listed below. Responsibilities are assigned to a Program Associate based on qualifications and interest, as well as EAC’s needs, and the below list is not exhaustive.

  • Support - Support EAC’s directors: Handle scheduling, arrange travel details, run errands, and perform other executive assistant functions.
  • Office workanswer phones, greet office visitors, take notes, participate in and lead staff meetings, make photocopies, scan documents, organize files, maintain office contact lists, communicate with IT and maintenance, send emails, handle mail, order and organize supplies, and conduct related administrative/clerical tasks to ensure the office is running smoothly.
  • Websites and social media – Maintain, edit, and update EAC’s website, manage EAC and Director’s Twitter and LinkedIn accounts.
  • Events – Help with planning, coordination, and support for various EAC events and external presentations; assist with scheduling and travel; communicate with participants and stakeholders; assist with outreach and communications promoting event; prepare and edit slides and presentation materials; coordinate event logistics like catering, room reservations, etc.; and assist with post-event follow-up.
  • Project management – Under supervision of directors, act as primary point of contact for research projects, which may include managing deadlines, communicating tasks and priorities effectively, editing final products (articles, reports, PowerPoints, etc.), and managing distribution strategies.
  • Nonprofit administration – Work with Center’s directors to manage EAC’s fiscal activities (e.g., preparing and processing invoices, expense reimbursement requests; consultant contracts, etc.); write and manage grants; engage in communications with board members; and assist with matters related to HR and budget.
  • Research and writing - Assist senior staff with research and writing (including fact checking and proofreading articles), online presence, and social science field work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree with strong academic record; degree in gender studies, public policy, political science, labor studies, or a closely related field is a plus;
  • Proven track record of high performance within an office environment or other work environment;
  • Minimum of one year of work experience preferred;
  • Interest in gender equity issues and/or workers’ rights preferred.

  • Ability to manage multiple assignments from different supervisors at once and prioritize work appropriately;
  • Excellence in research and writing and the ability to research and write quickly, preferred;
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel);
  • Knowledge of WordPress or similar web design program and/or experience managing social media (including LinkedIn and Twitter) and ability to pick up other software and applications quickly is a plus;
  • Ability to think ahead and anticipate problems, and to problem solve when issues arise;
  • Flexible, can-do attitude, and willingness to wear multiple hats;
