The incumbent is responsible for sustaining an environment of intrinsic good will for the practice while providing optimum services to patients. The incumbent provides non-licensed medical support to medical care providers as a medical assistant for the department/clinical team for which it is assigned. This position also performs specialized procedures and/or identifiable coordination of medical office services requiring special training, skill level and responsibility as determined per operational need. The incumbent is supervised by a Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) when performing or assisting with procedures. The incumbent works under the direction of a clinic manager/supervisor (MA 2 supervisor/Ambulatory Care Patient Supv 1, nurse manager, and/or practice manager) for administrative purposes, including customer service, professional behavior and development, assignment and scheduling of work, and performance of job functions not requiring supervision by an LIP.

Department Description
The UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center provides medical and surgical oncology specialty and subspecialty care to cancer patients starting with diagnosis and extending through, treatment, surveillance, and survivorship. The nurse navigator uses the nursing process to offer individualized assistance to patients, families, and caregivers to help overcome barriers to care to facilitate timely access to quality healthcare and promote successful outcomes. The nurse navigator serves as a patient advocate, empowering informed decision making. The incumbent provides education and a comprehensive review of the plan of care to patients and caregivers in conjunction with the clinical team of registered nurses, advanced practitioners, and physicians. The nurse navigator will exhibit strong skills in clinical oncology, communication, critical thinking, and leadership; and have or acquire knowledge of financial hardships, payor systems, and organization and community resources. This position involves a high level of autonomy as well as the ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams across various settings and providers.
