Responsibilities
The Director of Resident and Fellow Development in the Office of Graduate Medical Education (GME) provides organizational leadership to develop, execute, enhance, and maintain a program promoting resident and fellow academic success, retention, and professional development. The Director provides individual coaching and group consultation on academic learning strategies and methods and professional development topics, evaluates existing programs/services, and modifies/develops new programs/services to provide effective strategies for the academic and professional success of resident and fellows in accordance with accreditation requirements. The Director is responsible for development of resources and curriculum, implementation and evaluation of programs and activities, and serving as an educator for residents and fellows at UC Davis Health. The Director also support faculty development as it pertains to resident and fellow success.
Required Qualifications
- Masters Degree in Education or related fields or education/training.
- Experience to develop academic resources, curriculum, implementation and evaluation of programs and activities.
- Strong skills in teaching, counseling, and advising of advanced learners.
- Advanced knowledge of cognitive learning science and its application to study methods and test taking strategies.
- Advanced knowledge of methods of academic and skills assessment, remediation, and outcomes analysis at the post-graduate level.
- Knowledge and understanding of barriers to learning including learning disabilities, ADHD, and common psychological programs that impair academic success.
- Advanced knowledge of teaching and training principles, practices, procedures, and resources, including curriculum development and assessment for adult learners, using various contemporary methodologies.
- Skill to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues.
- Strong research, analytical, critical thinking, and data management skills.
- Strong leadership skills, including the ability to self-assess; communicate effectively; delegate; develop a vision, set goals, and achieve goals; andrespond to identified institution/program/individual needs.
- Appreciation of the complex academic, social, cultural, wellness and other co-curricular factors that contribute to or inhibit resident or fellow success.
- Understanding of and commitment to diversity issues in the delivery of programs and services.
- Skill to effectively communicate with residents, fellows, faculty, and staff.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD or equivalent in Education or related fields
- Demonstrated experience in medical education, particularly graduate medical education.
- Demonstrated advanced skills in program development, coordination, delivery and evaluation of effective learning services, teaching principles, practices, and procedures.
- Demonstrated coaching skills for personal, professional, and organizational development; coaching certification and/or formal training in coaching methods.
- Knowledge of medical education literature, practices, research processes, and publication.
