Description

Essential Qualities

The Professional Learning and Development Specialist at Tulsa Educare is responsible for coordinating, planning, and executing early childhood professional development, employee engagement, and leadership development programs with the purpose of ensuring all children receive high-quality services that meet their needs. Essential Functions

The functions outlined in this job description are examples of the general nature of those performed by employees in this position. Any combination of these functions and responsibilities may be performed. These functions are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.

  • Assists with the design and implementation of systems intended to enhance new employee’s onboarding experience, ensuring new employees receive appropriate levels of coaching, guidance, and development during their first year of employment.

  • Evaluate, design, and create training resources using a variety of methods using facilitator guides, participant guides, and work step instructions.

  • Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration among program staff regarding best practice of talent development.

  • Develop and facilitate training modules and support mechanisms to enhance and develop employee’s knowledge of early childhood philosophies, frameworks and curriculum including Teaching Strategies’ Creative Curriculum, Conscious Discipline, Program for Infant/Toddler Care (PITC), Teaching Strategies GOLD, Cognitive ToyBox, and classroom quality observation tools.

  • Support classrooms with establishing routines, classroom management strategies, individualizing for children, and completing quality lesson plans.

  • Provide ongoing support to maximize the implementation of authentic learning activities and creative use of early education materials, implementation of effective teaching strategies to maximize teacher-child interactions and enhance teacher knowledge and skills in the evaluation of child progress.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of quality initiatives designed to increase school readiness best practices in early education settings.

  • Maintain up to date knowledge of best practices and ensure continuous improvement of Tulsa Educare’s development and training.

  • Plan and coordinate the annual pre-service training for school employees that prepares staff for the upcoming year.

Other

  • Communicate regularly with the Curriculum and Inclusion Coordinator to receive guidance, report progress, plan new strategies, discuss problems, and receive information on program policies and procedures.

  • Maintain certification in WestEd’s Program for Infant/Toddler Care (PITC) and DHS Safe Sleep Certification

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Conscious Discipline, the Infant-Toddler Environmental Rating Scales (ITERS) and the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (Pre-K CLASS)

  • Center for Childhood Professional Development (CECPD) Approved Trainer.

  • Participate in regular supervision, team meeting, multi-disciplinary and staff meetings/training as required.

  • Monitor, evaluate, and record training activities and program effectiveness and assess training needs through surveys, focus groups/committees, and consultation with leaders and staff.

  • Assume all other responsibilities willingly.

Qualifications


Knowledge and Skills

Broad knowledge and experience in:

  • Facilitating, presenting and effectively communicating to a diverse population.

  • Displaying excellent interpersonal and communication skills with drive, energy and a passion for development of people and departments.

  • Developing collaborative partnerships and work in a team environment.

  • Theories and principles of child development, adult learning, teaching strategies and the components of a high quality early learning environment.

  • Working knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards and Oklahoma Department of Human Services’ Child Care Licensing.

  • MS Office skills, database software skills, organizational skills, efficiency skills and excellent attention to detail with a demonstrated commitment to completing assignments on a timely basis.

  • Balancing and prioritizing multiple projects and priorities and following through to completion.

  • Must be driven to follow Tulsa Educare’s shared values: Kindness, Reciprocity, Positive Problem Solving, Inclusiveness, Data Driven Decision-Making, and Courage.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university/college in Child Development, Early Childhood, Family Studies, Social Work or related field.

  • Three or more years of early childhood experience.

  • Documented experience developing and implementing adult learning.

Other Qualifications

  • Primarily an office position with some local travel (exposure to normal traffic hazards). Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Regular and reliable attendance required.
