Tuckernuck is Hiring an Associate Buyer Near Washington, DC

Title: Associate Buyer

Location: Washington, D.C.Salary: Competitive salary and benefits package based on qualifications; classified as full-time salaried; exempt and not eligible for overtime.

Reports to: Director of Buying

Position Overview

The Associate Buyer is responsible for purchasing products that fall in line with our financial goals and plans and Buying Process to achieve the Tuckernuck overall strategy set by our Founders. This is done by developing and managing relationships between the Tuckernuck Buying Team, the vendor community (new and existing) and the internal Tuckernuck Team. Associate Buyers are responsible for several categories and oversee the brands that make up that matrix. They are also encouraged to help the Directors of Buying and Buyers key po’s and create products when they have a lighter workload.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop strategies by category and powerpoint decks to present seasonal buying plans
  • Develop and report on third party products performance, weekly, monthly, and seasonally 
  • Manage Sales, Margins, and Inventory to ensure targets are met for brands and categories owned 
  • Manage Vendor Relationships:
    • Develop professional relationships with Vendors and Brands we buy to ensure we are buying the best products to achieve our company goals
    • Negotiate discounts, shipping terms, payment terms, RTV’s, Reorders and (potentially advertising and markdown/margin money)
    • Communicate with Vendors to understand Shipment arrival dates and Vendor Compliance
  • Manage Buying Process: 
    • Attend Market appointments with vendors to review newest brand assortments
    • Prepare historical recaps, line sheets, and suggested assortments to review with the buying committee weekly
    • Discover new brands and styles that identify with our customer and our mission and submit weekly to the buying committee & review with Category owner
    • Pick up brands that the founders find that are within that category and execute buys following buying process
    • Identify holes and opportunities in category assortment & review with fellow buyers to ensure there is no duplication within the category 
    • Analyze current and previous seasons data, comp styles and pricepoints for strategic buy depth 
    • Track buys as they are written to ensure monthly and seasonal and category plans are achieved
    • Add styles to Buys by Category for all internal teams to reference and understand what is arriving
  • Manage Buy to Warehouse Process: 
    • Create products in retail ops and key PO’s
    • Coordinate with vendor to understand timing of shipment and payment 
    • Update in retail ops and adjust as necessary to meet open to buy plans and meet weekly to discuss receipts
    • Review the receiving log daily to understand where the PO’s are in the processVendor Shipments 
  • Manage in Season Product and Brand Performance:
    • Collaborate with Creative, PR, Styling, and Merchandising teams to ensure products achieve sell through and margin goals
    • Analyze sales daily, weekly, monthly to place reorders for fast movers or initiate markdowns

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of related experience
