Title: Sewer (Part Time)

Location: Washington, D.C.
Reports to: Abraham Cruz, Designer 

Position Overview 

Tuckernuck is looking for a Sewer to join our team that will be responsible for sewing and finishing first protos through production approval and fit samples within acceptable timeframes. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in apparel construction and have the ability to identify different types of fabrics and fibers. This individual will delight the Tuckernuck customer by partnering with our designers, while creating and maintaining the fit, form, function, and specifications of the garments.

Core Responsibilities

• Work closely with technical designers and pattern maker to create apparel samples of newly created designs for upcoming seasons 
• Compare pattern to cut apparel samples to ensure they match, ensuring prototype is consistent in size, measurement, and feel 
• Sew the sample garment accurately using proper machinery and tools
• Work with technical designers to resolve any issues with the execution of the prototypes or samples 
• Clarify discrepancies in tech packs with developers, noting updates as needed
• Determine estimated fabric usages for styles 
• Participate in all development meetings and fittings to make adjustments to samples as needed 
• Collaborate with designers and development team to sure the functionality and fit of the sample
• Cut and sew sample garments for products according to technical specifications and patterns
• Evaluate garment construction and technical specifications to ensure consistency in quality and fit
• Recommend garment construction options for the enhancement of garment appearance and cost efficiency 
• Ensure alterations and corrections are made in a timely manner 
• Work alongside the design team to ensure that samples submitted to the factory match the sample and pattern specifications. 

Minimum Qualifications

• 2-5 years of experience sewing samples
• Experience with a variety of categories, including dresses, tops, bottoms, jackets, and accessory items

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities 

• Strong attention to detail and precision in sewing techniques 
• Understanding of patterns and their role in sewing is required 
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to interpret the designer’s intentions 

• Understanding of the Tuckernuck brand with a strong attention to detail and high quality execution 
• Knowledge of complex garment construction and high-end garment finishes
• Strong knowledge of quality, make, and production integrity appropriate for Tuckernuck merchandise
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are required to communicate effectively with internal colleagues, management and vendors.
