TRI COUNTY OFFICE ON AGING is Hiring a Community Nutrition Program Manager Near Lansing, MI

Job Title: Community Nutrition Program Manager
Reports to: Nutrition Director
Work Location: Lansing, MI
Base work schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. with an hour lunch (40 hours)
Compensation: $19.98/hour plus benefits
General Responsibilities: Oversees the Agency’s congregate meal program which provides healthy well-balanced meals in community settings. Ensures that all necessary health and nutritional standards are met while participants receive a quality dining experience. Creates and maintains various reports for the Nutrition Program. Provides back-up and support to the Nutrition Program as needed. Promotes agency services to the community through participation in outreach events.
Essential Job Functions: (Reasonable accommodation will be provided, if necessary, for individuals with disabilities who can perform the essential job functions.)
  • Responsible for the overall effective operation of all congregate dining locations. Recommends changes to existing congregate sites and the establishment of new sites based on needs assessment, building availability, local demographic data, and other relevant factors.
  • Responsible for the supervision of Dining Site Coordinators. Makes recommendations for employment, ensures adequate training, corrective actions, and termination of staff. Evaluates staff performance to maintain agency standards.
  • Assures that on-going training and program support are provided. Visits each site as necessary to ensure compliance to program and Agency standards including, but not limited to, sanitation, safety, participation, and nutrition.
  • Responsible for the Senior Dine Card Program. Acts as the lead person for expanding, promoting, and overseeing the Senior Dine Card Program. Evaluates and recommends the addition of locations based on need. Oversees the process with addition of sites for compliance with all regulatory requirements and execution of new agreements. Assesses existing locations for compliance with agreements and regulatory standards.
  • Establishes new and updates existing policies and procedures for the nutrition program with final approval of the Nutrition Director, Executive Director and required State Agencies.
  • Monitors dining site equipment being in good repair and maintaining appropriate equipment at each location.
  • Troubleshoots problems and facilitates solutions between the central kitchen and dining sites.
  • Manages effective tracking of meal counts and program income. May be required to create and maintain reports for the Nutrition Program.
  • Serves as the lead agency contact for Senior Project Fresh in Ingham County.
  • Provides support with participant assessments as needed throughout the Nutrition Program.
  • Prepares monthly reports and invoices for the Nutrition Program using information from databases.
  • Facilitates communication within the agency between the nutrition program and other programs for maintaining positive relationships. These include but are not limited to Medicare Medicaid Assistance Program (MMAP), MI Choice, etc.
  • Provides support with volunteer recruitment efforts, onboarding, education, and training of volunteers.
  • Ensures all agency policies are upheld.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and establish good relationships with staff, participants, volunteers, and vendors.
  • Ability to represent the Agency in a professional manner.
  • Must be able to adjust priorities to meet deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Ability to meet department standards regarding job knowledge, participant focus, initiative, productivity, communication, teamwork, and attendance.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required. Associate degree in human services, Nutrition, Food Service, Business, or a related field is preferred.
  • Two years of supervisory experience is required. Prior experience working with volunteers and/or seniors within a community-based program is preferred.
  • Must have a valid Michigan driver’s license in good standing (less than 4 points).
  • Ability to be certified in food sanitation within 1 month of employment is required. Prior ServeSafe experience is preferred.
Working Conditions:
  • The work environment varies. When in the office, safe work practices regarding office equipment, avoiding trips/falls and fire regulations are required. When traveling to or spending time at residential or medical facilities, exposure to unusual elements such as smoke, unpleasant odors, loud noises, and extreme temperatures increases
  • Physical mobility is required for sitting, walking, standing, bending, and lifting/holding/carrying objects of up to 40 pounds. Ability to enter and access information using a computer. Must be able to communicate effectively with participants, co-workers, volunteers, and vendors in person and over the telephone.
  • Sensory requirements include exposure to uniform temperatures, conversational noise levels and everyday office activities.
  • Mental requirements include the ability to handle varying levels of stress.
