Trellis School is Hiring a Special Education Teacher Near Baltimore, MD

The Trellis School is a K-12 non-public school serving children with autism based in Sparks, MD (Baltimore County). Our Autism Instructors work one-on-one with our learners and receive extensive training and coaching in behavior management. The school’s educational program is designed to build strong foundational communication, learner readiness, academic, social and play skills in young learners with a focus on using Verbal Behavior (VB).The Special Education Teacher is responsible for developing individualized instructional programs for learners with adherence to Verbal Behavior methodology and Maryland State Curriculum.Observe instructor/learner pairs during NET/ITT sessions and demonstrate, explain, and support the use of effective instructional proceduresInform Education Director and Instructional Support Specialist regarding school wide training needsSeek support of Education Director and Instructional Support Specialist when needed after employing known strategiesFollow through on instructional recommendations made by Instructional Support Specialist or Education Director.Complete classroom administrative tasks (attendance, goal sheet preparation, schedule updates, behavior graphing, etc.)Conduct NET plan reviews and data sheet reviews for each learner, weeklyComplete video reviews and follow up conferencesComplete binder reviewsReview behavioral data to determine trendsDevelop Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for each studentParticipate in all IEP related meetings (Annual Review, Progress Review, Evaluation Planning and Evaluation Review Meetings) for each studentConduct educational assessments when ordered by IEP team and write reportsMaterials preparation for group activities or individual learners if necessaryLead program update meetings for studentsSupport general school procedures: such as arrival, lunch schedules, dismissal, cleaning tasks, field trips, etc.Provide model 1:1 instruction for learnersPlan for, provide, and evaluate group instructionMaintain current standard/provisional certification within MSDE guidelinesMaintain current first aid/CPR certificationDemonstrate positive work ethic by actively seeking student growth and offering suggestions for program improvementDemonstrate professionalism when working with other staff members and parentsOther duties as assignedQualificationsBachelor’s degree and MSDE Teaching Certification (SPC I/II, APC, or COND)requiredMust have the ability to work independently.To use initiative in taking the first steps or act without being urged to complete projects and/or work.Problem solving—the individual identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner, gathers and analyzes information skillfully.Planning/organizing—the individual is detail oriented, prioritizes and plans work activities and uses time efficiently.Multi-tasking – the individual is able to work on multiple projects at one time.Quality control—the individual demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness, monitors own work to ensure quality and applies feedback to improve performance.To have the ability and flexibility to work effectively in an organization environment that is rapidly growing and changing.Must attend all mandatory training(s).Adaptability—the individual adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.Dependability—the individual is consistently at work and on time, follows instructions, responds to management direction and solicits feedback to improve performance.Safety and security—the individual observes safety and security procedures and uses equipment and materials properly.Language AbilityMust be able to speak and read English. The ability to write routine reports,letters and emails as well as general correspondence. Have the ability to speakeffectively with special needs children and in describing general work needs and tospeak effectively in interpersonal situations.Computer SkillsTo perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MicrosoftWidows programs including, but not limited to Word and Excel.
