Trees Atlanta is a nonprofit community group that protects and improves Atlanta’s urban forest by planting, conserving, and educating. Since its beginnings, Trees
Atlanta’s goals have been to plant new trees, conserve existing trees, replace trees lost to development and hazards, and educate the public on the many benefits of trees. Trees Atlanta has become one of the most widely-known and respected non-profits locally, as well as nationally, for their work as stewards of our urban environment. To date, Trees Atlanta has planted and cared for over 150,000 trees in metro Atlanta.
Your Impact
Trees Atlanta is looking for a NeighborWoods Manager to oversee all aspects of Trees Atlanta’s community forestry efforts through the NeighborWoods Program. The scope of responsibility includes, but is not limited to the following:
Regularly work with diverse communities and individuals in both professional and outdoor field setting to achieve program goals.
Manage and coordinate planting and maintenance projects in order to meet annual goals (averaging 4,000 new trees each year, no more than 3% net loss of existing trees).
Supervise, train, evaluate, motivate, and instruct NeighborWoods staff and volunteers.
Develop relationships with neighborhoods, city departments, and city councils to plan and complete community projects.
Develop and manage program budget.
Manage grant and contract requirements.
Ensure the program adheres to field related best practices.
Manage the selection and purchase of trees for all projects.
Manage the logistics for tree orders and deliveries (includes unloading trucks and organizing storage of trees at Trees Atlanta facilities and planting sites).
Teach tree planting and care instructions through live site demonstrations and scheduled classes to staff and volunteers.
Update tree inventory data and provide reports for the Data and Logistics Manager.
Additional tasks as needed to fulfill projects completion and program goals.
Requirements
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
PREFERRED: Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, Urban Forestry, Horticulture, or an environmentally related degree.
Extensive knowledge of plants, trees, and forests.
Experience with volunteer coordination.
A proven growth and program improvement mindset.
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and working knowledge of GIS.
Must have experience in project management, including program plans and budgeting.
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills (crucial for interaction with community organizations, volunteers, and staff).
Highly motivated, organized and detailed oriented.
Versatile (able and willing to assist coworkers when needed).
Demonstrate the ability to work independently and with a team.
Physical Requirements
Available to work Tuesday through Saturday.
Ability to conduct moderate to strenuous physical activity and lift 50 pounds repetitively.
