Position Summary:
The Safety Manager leads the development, implementation, and management of comprehensive safety programs to ensure the well-being of employees, compliance with regulatory requirements, and mitigation of workplace hazards. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote a culture of safety, drive continuous improvement, and achieve excellence in safety performance.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Develop, implement, and oversee company-wide safety programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA) and industry standards.
  • Provide strategic direction and guidance on safety initiatives.
  • Conduct risk assessments, job hazard analyses, and safety audits to identify and mitigate workplace hazards.
  • Partner with department managers to implement controls and corrective actions to eliminate or minimize risks.
  • Lead investigations of workplace accidents, injuries, and near-misses to determine root causes and contributing factors.
  • Develop and implement corrective actions and preventive measures to prevent recurrence. Maintain accurate records of incidents and corrective actions.
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees at all levels, covering topics such as hazard recognition, emergency response, machine guarding, and personal protective equipment (PPE) usage. Ensure training is effective and meets regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations, standards, and permit requirements.
  • Stay abreast of changes in regulations and industry best practices, communicating updates and implementing necessary changes to safety programs and procedures.
  • Analyze safety performance metrics, trends, and leading indicators to assess the effectiveness of safety programs and identify areas for improvement. Prepare reports and presentations for management on safety performance and initiatives.
  • Promote a culture of safety throughout the organization by engaging employees, fostering open communication about safety concerns, and recognizing and rewarding safety achievements. Encourage active participation in safety committees and initiatives.
  • Evaluate the safety performance of contractors and vendors working on-site, ensuring compliance with safety requirements and adherence to company policies.
  • Develop and implement contractor safety programs and monitor contractor activities.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures for various scenarios, including fires, chemical spills, and medical emergencies.
  • Conduct drills and simulations to test the effectiveness of emergency response protocols.
  • Drive continuous improvement in safety performance through regular review and evaluation of safety programs, processes, and practices. Implement innovative solutions to enhance workplace safety and reduce risk.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field. Professional certification (e.g., CSP, CIH) is preferred.
  • 5 years of experience in occupational safety and health, with progressive experience in safety management roles, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA) and industry standards related to manufacturing operations.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven track record of leading safety initiatives, conducting incident investigations, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and safety management software.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
