Town of Bel Air is Hiring an Economic Development Coordinator Near Bel Air, MD

Job Description

The Town of Bel Air is seeking to hire an Economic Development Coordinator in the Department of Economic Development. This is a professional level position requiring responsible administrative duties. The Economic Development Coordinator's duties include the coordination of economic development and cultural arts activities, development of marketing initiatives and promotional campaigns, overseeing social media initiatives and assistance with special events. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Economic Development Director.

Essential Functions

Assist the Director in administering and managing economic development initiatives for the Town, including plans for community revitalization, business retention and expansion, and business recruitment.

Assist the Director in providing business owners with information and technical assistance for start-up, development and/or expansion of business plans.

Act in the capacity of Arts & Entertainment District Manager, including marketing, developing relationships with partner organizations and local artists, increasing awareness in the community, and creating new initiatives for the District.

Act as liaison to the Bel Air Cultural Arts Commission, and other commissions and committees throughout the community.

Serve as Business Incubator Specialist and oversee the selection process and development of the administrative framework for Armory Marketplace.

Copartner with the Town’s Grants Coordinator to identify potential grant resources.

Write grant narratives, articles, newsletters, and blog posts.

Prepare correspondence, press releases, reports, data bases and promotional materials for the department as needed.

Create and manage social media content for various Town Facebook and Instagram pages, including the Economic Development Department page, the A&E District page, and the Armory Marketplace page.

Assist with promotional activities, trade shows, and events.

Create and manage website content for two WordPress websites.

Create and develop marketing initiatives and promotional campaigns for Economic Development, the Arts & Entertainment District and Armory Marketplace.

Perform other related tasks as required.

Knowledge and Skills

Should be knowledgeable in the principles and practices of economic development, marketing, social media, and general public administration. Have a basic understanding of cultural arts programs and event planning. Must be capable of performing research, writing reports, giving oral presentations, and interacting well with a variety of people. Must possess a valid driver’s license and be physically capable of moving about on the work site. Must be able to work evenings and weekends, as events require. Must have excellent computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft applications. Knowledge of WordPress, Canva and Constant Contact is preferred. Must be capable of simultaneously managing multiple projects and possess supervisory skills.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business Management, or related field. At least two years of experience in economic development, public administration, marketing, planning or an equivalent combination of related education and experience are accepted.

Physical and Environmental Conditions

Work occurs in a normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature, and air conditions. Occasional light lifting of materials up to twenty pounds and sitting for extended periods of time viewing a computer monitor and detailed data. Requires repetitive motion in the operation of a computer.

The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations.
