Town of Addison is Hiring a Senior Accountant Near Addison, TX

Under general supervision, performs and supervises accounting tasks of moderate difficulty in support of the financial activities and operation of the Town. Implements and administers reconciliation functions, identifying any problems, collecting information and recommending solutions.

  • Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual reconciliations to include bank, grant, capital asset, special event, and other reconciliations for the Town’s general ledger and subsidiary ledger accounts to ensure the accuracy of financial records. 
  • Tracks revenue collection and reconciliation associated with assigned general ledger accounts; researching and correcting errors.
  • Maintains and reconciles grant accounts including project level accounting and grant report filings. 
  • Manages the capital asset function including developing and monitoring appropriate internal controls and procedures and recording all capital asset acquisitions, disposals and transfers.
  • Maintains monthly construction in progress tracking schedule.
  • Performs annual inventory of capital assets.
  • Runs annual depreciation for all capital assets.
  • Prepares audit schedules related to capital assets and assists auditors with capital asset inquiries.
  • Manages the project/property level accounting function for the Airport.
  • Manages the project level accounting function for Special Events and assists with Special Event invoicing.
  • Assists with non-profit grant funding process as needed.
  • Participates in the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR)
  • Performs detailed financial testing and trend analysis; participates in various projects as assigned.
  • Coordinates and works with internal and external parties to manage expectations, workflow, and work processes; identifies areas for improvement.
  • May be asked to perform additional job duties that are directly, indirectly or completely unrelated to normal job functions in the course of presenting certain Town special events.
  • Performs related duties as required or assigned.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; AND
  • Three (3) years of accounting experience, preferably government accounting; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 
Conditions of Employment:
  • Safe driving record and valid Texas Driver’s License. 
  • Clear Criminal Background check and pre-employment drug screen.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of accounting theories, principles, and practices; Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge of automated accounting systems.
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Skill in applying and maintaining internal controls. 
  • Skill in interpreting and applying government finance and accounting industry standards and best practices.
  • Skill in managing and completing projects; meeting deadlines. 
  • Skill in preparing clear and concise written and verbal reports.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Skill in and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relations with fellow employees, Town officials, and outside contractors.
PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a standard office environment. Office is located in a two-story building without an elevator. Work is generally performed indoors in an air-conditioned facility but may also include limited exposure to outside weather conditions. This is an exempt position; incumbent will be expected to work whatever hours are necessary to complete responsibilities.
