Topco Associates is Hiring a Category Insights Manager Near Itasca, IL

Overview:
Topco Associates is currently seeking a Category Insights Manager for the Insights team in Itasca, IL. This position will be a hybrid role, with the successful candidate conducting work in our Itasca office three times per week and virtual twice per week.
One of Topco’s three core strategies is Knowledge Management. Recently, this strategy has taken on a much more important role, and additional focus is required at the business unit level. In this role, the Manager of Category Insights will serve as an analytic and category management expert using the category management process as a decision platform for all initiatives designed to optimize category strategy, assortment, distribution merchandising, pricing and promotional mix for Topco. Provide data-driven, customer-focused insights to help meet and exceed volume and market share objectives.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead efforts in delivering data-driven customer focused category business plans and insights to support category strategy
  • Lead, train and develop team of analysts advancing analytic skills and acumen
  • Utilize syndicated, market, and internal data sources to derive insight, synthesize, and make actionable recommendations to category teams
  • Provide ongoing tracking and support for business unit category team performance and opportunities
  • Effectively advise and on key category opportunities for growth with Category Managers as well as Senior Merchandising Executives.
  • Proactively work with teams to creatively solve business question with unique and sound ways of applying data. Interacts with internal and external peers and management to share highly complex information related to areas of expertise and/or to gain acceptance of new or enhanced business solutions/initiatives.
  • Coordinate, execute, analyze and present findings from research related to category and item-level studies, all geared to drive incremental value for Topco and its members.
  • Collaborate with Topco’s, Brand and Insights (Market Intelligence) to develop category and item insight approaches, delivering relevant consistent business recommendations around these opportunities
  • Collaborate and share information cross-functionally to improve workflow processes and operational efficiencies
  • Communicate effectively and tailors communications appropriately to different audiences
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree

Previous Experience
5-7 years of experience:
  • In Retail (Grocery channel preferred) or Consumer Products
  • Influencing Retail Buyers or Category Management teams
  • Synthesizing multiple sources, including syndicated data, of information to provide business recommendations and develop strategies
  • Category management, price and promotion, assortment, merchandising and/or product performance analysis
  • Ability to read and analyze market and industry reports and data, recognize opportunities for growth and profit, and make sound business decisions based on this information on a regular basis.
  • Experience as a buyer or calling on retail buyers
  • Training or change management with business leaders to implement new analytical approaches, processes or activations
  • Proven project management experience

  • Creative and strategic thinker, who understands brand and category intricacies within the Grocery industry.
  • Problem-solver who can think analytically to solve unique business challenges
  • Proven ability to inspire confidence in providing value added insights and information
  • Superior ability to communicate clearly and effectively with others at all levels, including senior management within Topco and at our Members organizations, both orally and in writing and to make presentations to both small and large groups.
  • Must have a strong thirst for knowledge, with a willingness to be flexible learn from others
