Under general supervision, performs juvenile probation case management duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Conducts intake interviews to collect personal and medical background data for juveniles in detention.
Confirms identity and determine plan for detention or release.
Collects information for and completes Social History reports that are used by the Court for disposition decisions.
Monitors juvenile compliance with probation, detention or court orders through home, work and school visits, in accordance with the policies and standards established by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department and the Chief Juvenile Probation Officer.
Conducts investigations, evaluations, and recommendations to the Court concerning alleged probation violations.
Coordinates case issues with attorneys, family members, school officials, medical personnel and detention staff.
Cooperates with other probation officers and staff in the County employed and from other jurisdictions in making investigations, supervising persons on probation, and performing additional related services as may be requested by other officers.
Observes juvenile’s physical, medical and emotional condition during intake interviews and makes appropriate referrals.
Refers clients for support services to appropriate agencies for services such as mediation, crisis intervention, substance abuse, mental health or job counseling, etc. and monitors their progress in those agencies.
Documents and maintains chronological recordings and case records for office files and court presentations as required by the Court, the Chief Probation Officer and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department.
Attend court hearings, detention hearings, ARD meetings, and any other community meetings that may affect the disposition of a juvenile’s case or where probation department input is necessary.
Transports juveniles to scheduled appointments for school, work, medical treatment, counseling, emergency shelters and placement.
Responsible for case management of all assigned cases, to include JCMS data entry, case plans, completing MAYSI’s/PACTS/other assessments, preparing court reports for pre-dispositions,
adjudications/dispositions, modifications, determinate sentencing, certification, transfer hearings, etc. and is required to be present and testify at all hearings of assigned cases.
Researches family situation, placement alternatives, and special needs of the child in order to develop individual probation plans for assigned cases and completes placement packet as applicable.
Conducts counseling groups for juveniles and family members.
Makes formal presentations concerning probation concepts and programs to the community and law enforcement agencies and participate in community activities.
Carries out programs presently in effect and any other programs which may be established by the Court, the Chief Juvenile Probation Officer, or the Texas Juvenile Justice Department.
Stays current on legal issues and laws, policies and procedures regarding Juvenile Probation and Criminal Justice issues locally and statewide. Keeps up-to-date on new developments and techniques in the criminal justice field and, where advisable and appropriate, applies these to his/her work.
Takes 24 hour on call beeper as assigned.
Perform related duties as required.

Juvenile Drug Treatment Court (JDTC) Officer: Manage the coordination of activities and the strategic plan of the JDTC; manage the JDTC caseload; maintain client data; remain informed regarding budgetary concerns of the JDTC program; provide training on related topics when necessary; coordinate services from each discipline and the local community; have a clear understanding of the roles and responsibilities of other JDTC team members; responsible for gathering information from each team member and preparing/submitting updates to the judge prior to each juvenile drug treatment court session; updates will include recommendations from team members regarding sanctions or rewards for each juvenile participant as applicable; have knowledge of substance use treatment and other evidence based treatment modalities; have comprehensive understanding of risk/needs assessment instruments, case planning, JDTC structure, incentives, sanctions, and other motivational strategies; have the ability to build strong rapport with JDTC Judge, JDTC team members, JDTC providers, community stakeholders, and JDTC participants.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Knowledge of case management; knowledge of Juvenile Justice Code, Penal Code Laws, TAC Title 37 Probation and Detention Standards; knowledge of support service programs and eligibility requirements; knowledge of basic individual and group counseling techniques, and federal PREA guidelines. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; ability to communicate effectively with hostile, abusive or irrational individuals; ability to obtain and organize information; ability to operate personal computer and basic office equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees, outside organizations, attorneys, law enforcement agencies and the general public.

Physical Requirements and Work Setting:
Physical requirements include lifting/carrying 5-10 lbs. occasionally; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard and basic office equipment. Subject to sitting, standing, walking, reaching, handling and smelling to perform the essential functions. Working conditions are primarily inside an office within a jail environment with frequent local travel. Must be able to react professionally and safely under potential or actual volatile conditions. May be required to physically restrain violent youths.

Education and/or Experience Required:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work or a closely related field, and one year experience working with children; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates and Licenses:
Must secure and maintain certification as a Juvenile Probation Officer and Juvenile Supervision Officer by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department within one year of employment. Must have a valid driver’s license, motor vehicle liability insurance, personal liability insurance and a personal vehicle.

Additional Requirements:
Required to be on call 24 hours a day. May be required to perform shift work; may be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek.
Must be able to pass a criminal background check with no disqualifying criminal history indicated.
