Systems Administrator

Tipmont REMC has a unique opportunity for a Systems Administrator.

Are you the one tasked to troubleshoot complex systems en route from test to production? Have you always marveled at the way analysis and automation can optimize operations?

We seek someone to administer, develop, test, implement and maintain operating systems and related software for Tipmont — which delivers essential services of electricity and fiber internet across north Central Indiana.

As Systems Administrator, you will run point on ensuring the effective, efficient delivery of systems across the organization — from backups and troubleshooting to system upgrades, hardware configuration, and strategic recommendations. (Responsibilities will differ from those of an Operating Systems Programmer in that this position will not alter operating systems' software codes.)

Our ideal candidate has the following core skills, aptitudes, and attitudes:

• Experience and comfort with comprehensive oversight on performance of operating systems and related software
• Rigor to establish and implement standards for computer operations for compatibility between hardware and software, according to specifications and parameters
• Confidence to troubleshoot and resolve software, operating system and networking issues
• Coordinating schedules, plans and performance of system upgrades, including transition from test to production environments
• Strategic recommendations of hardware and software upgrades according to growth statistics and disk space formats
• Reliability to schedule, perform and monitor system backups and, as necessary, perform data recovery
• Scheduling tasks using software support tools and scripts, configuring hardware (e.g., workstations, printers, servers), and providing support for system users
• Focus on process improvement and representing a company's energy and innovation
• Desires to be an integral part of a team

Required Skills / Experience:

• Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Technology, or other related field preferred
• 2 years of relevant work experience
• Understanding of virtual environments, including VMWare and HyperV
• Understanding of Windows Server Roles, including AD, DHCP, DNS, IIS, etc.
• Understanding of Cisco equipment, including routers, switches, firewalls, and phone systems
• Willingness to learn new technologies and obtain certifications
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Effective communicator
• Thrives in a team environment

Preferred Skills / Experience

• 4 years of relevant work experience
• Understanding of FreeBSD systems
• Understanding of Ubuntu and Linux systems
