Position Summary:
Operates ultrasound equipment and performs a variety of technical procedures to produce images for patient diagnosis.
The Medical Sonographer is to support research with vascular assessments in research involving patients with mental illness and healthy participants. Looking for a part-time (4 to 8 hours weekly for the current research project need) sonographer who can complete a variety of routine to advanced non-invasive vascular sonograms, focusing on flow-mediated dilation assessment. Hours can be increased for assisting other related research projects if desired. Provide direct assistance to investigators and research physicians. Attentive to research participant needs and adheres to sonography standards and guidelines. The ideal candidate would be a practicing Vascular Sonographer who is interested in helping with cardiovascular health research on a part-time basis.
Position Key Accountabilities:
1. Assists in the operation of ultrasound equipment and records results. Adjusts parameters on equipment, and reviews calibrations to assure that scans are reproducible under similar conditions.
2. Assists with research activities.
3. Performs basic maintenance on equipment to assure proper working conditions.
4. May participate in diagnosis process to access maternal and fetal well-being.
5. Assists with research activities by collecting data and participating in research projects.
6. Demonstrates the use of ultrasound equipment and techniques to assist with the education of students, nurses, residents, patients, and physicians.
7. Attend continuing education seminars to stay abreast of technological advances in ultrasound and antenatal testing.
8. Must be able to respond to emergency situations.
9. May perform other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
Registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or become registered within one year of employment.
Experience with FMD (Flow-Mediated Dilation) assessment preferred.
Experience working in academic research projects preferred.
Minimum Education:
Graduate of an AMA-approved school of Radiologic Technology or its equivalent.
Minimum Experience:
None.
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently and/or up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement:
Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
