Position Summary:

Provides technical skills for the performance of basic laboratory tasks required in the preparing and analyzing of various specimens.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  1. Logs patient data into computer system ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  2. Stains and coverslips slides. Assembles and delivers slides to Pathologists. 
  3. Labels biopsy cassettes and prepares biopsy specimens for grossing using routine techniques.
  4. Processes and aliquots samples in preparation for further testing. 
  5. Answers laboratory phone and triages client service concerns. 
  6. Files slides and paperwork.
  7. Performs and documents instrument and stain maintenance.
  8. Acquires laboratory specimens from nearby contracted clinics and doctors' offices.
  9. Markets Outreach Laboratory services to outside clinics and doctors' offices.
  10. Handles billing questions/problems from contracted clinics and doctors' offices. Resolves all issues in a timely and professional manner. 
  11. Completes medical transcriptions in a timely manner.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

Valid TX driving license and clean record; and moderate typing skills and medical terminology course or medical transcription skills.

Minimum Education:

High School diploma or equivalent.

Minimum Experience:

Six months of relevant experience.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Security Sensitive:

This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
