Three Rivers is Hiring an Estimator, Plumbing Near Midland, MI

Primary Function: Preparation of plumbing bids, estimates and budgets on heavy and light commercial, industrial and retail construction projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.)
  • Review construction documents and understand plumbing scope of work to bid
  • Take-offs of construction documents using computer based take-off program
  • Obtain pricing for materials
  • Obtain bids from subcontractors
  • Prepare cost summary capturing material, labor, equipment, subcontractor and overhead costs incurred in the installation of items
  • Attend pre-bid conferences
  • Visit construction sites and observe methods of construction to gain additional insight that will assist in accurately estimating jobs
  • Inform immediate supervisor of any observed inaccuracies or omissions in quoted items or computer database
  • Develop and maintain resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, etc.
  • Review all estimates with Group Leader or Project Manager to ensure accuracy and completeness, prior to formal quotation
  • Utilize standard formats for completing the estimates
  • Prepare conceptual estimating
  • Produce complete and accurate estimates
  • Respond promptly to customer needs, and maintain confidentiality
  • Ensure all working documents and data are maintained to backup estimate figures
  • Speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations
  • Review work for spelling and grammar and interpret written information
  • Prioritize and plan work activities and use time efficiently
  • Adapt to changes in the work environment, manage competing demands and deal with frequent changes, delays or unexpected events
  • Consistently at work and on time, follows instructions, responds to management direction and solicits feedback to improve performance
  • Observes safety and security procedures and uses equipment and materials properly; accounts for safety expenses in estimates
  • File all incoming vendor quotes and subcontractor quotes
  • Track estimates for status
  • Maintain a bid sheet with all pertinent information
  • Attend departmental meetings as required
  • Distribute bid invites and bid documents using GradeBeam application and Sharefile application
  • Regular in-person attendance required; may work remotely if governmentally mandated
  • Other miscellaneous duties as assigned by immediate supervisor
Education And/or Experience
  • Experienced construction estimator or an Associate’s degree in Construction Management or equivalent experience
  • Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and email software
  • Business use of the internet
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in field of plumbing/hydronics
Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsJourneyman Plumbers License
Language Skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Read, analyze and interpret blueprints and construction documents.
  • Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.
Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percentage.
  • Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas and graphs). Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
Physical Demands: The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment: The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites.
Must use safety equipment (PPE) where warranted. The noise level in the office is quiet and at job sites it is usually loud.
