Job Description:

As a Program Manager (PM) for Complex Aerospace Control Systems, you will play a crucial role in overseeing and coordinating the development, integration, and deployment of advanced control systems for aerospace applications. This position requires a strong background in aerospace engineering, project management, and a deep understanding of control systems and how they are integrated into an aircraft or weapon system. Meet or exceed milestones regarding Engineering, Procurement, and Production based on customer expectations.

The PM is responsible for the successful execution of programs while positively contributing to the overall achievement of the annual operating plan. This entails ensuring that contractual requirements are met within established cost and schedule targets, customer satisfaction is achieved, a quality product is delivered and profitable growth opportunities are identified and pursued in assigned areas.

This position is responsible for the execution of US Government and Commercial Aerospace programs with an emphasis on schedule development/management, risk and critical path analysis, maintaining proper lines of balance, management of subcontractors, and cost/margin improvement initiatives without sacrificing quality.

The Program Manager acts as the primary and accountable point of contact for the customer. Who defines, plans, manages, and reports on contractual requirements and overall performance of their programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Having primary responsibility and accountability for managing cost, schedule, and contractual requirements for an assigned program. Serving as the primary point of contact with the customer to provide overall leadership to the program team, resolve problems, identify and pursue growth/follow-on business strategies, and communicate issues to the customer and management promptly while providing recommended courses of action/solutions.
  • Creating and managing program plans that establish baseline cost and schedule targets and achieve all contractual, performance, and quality commitments. Clearly articulating cost and schedule goals to the team and regularly monitoring progress against the baseline.
  • Providing proposal support to include estimating the scope of efforts to include the generation and review of the basis of estimates, program management plans, program volumes, and creation of an integrated master schedule. Preparing and presenting monthly program review material in collaboration with the program team with an emphasis on the achievement of cost and schedule targets.
  • Negotiating and coordinating manpower, schedule, and budgets with other functional managers as necessary to accomplish program objectives.
  • Contributing to program management process improvement.
  • Analyzing programs to assess risk (cost, schedule, and technical performance), opportunities, risk mitigation plans, and taking corrective action when a program misses, or is in danger of missing cost, schedule, or technical performance requirements.
  • Represents the company with integrity and professionalism when interfacing with business partners, suppliers, customers, competitors, government agencies, or industry professional societies
  • Provides program team leadership and has overall responsibility for ensuring the successful completion of the program for both external and internal customers
  • Ensures project team understands and has sufficient resources to meet all contractual requirements, including product performance, quality, regulatory compliance, etc., develop the program plan with the team, and conducts regular program reviews, both internal/external, to report and track performance to the plan.
  • Provides program direction from kickoff, during program execution, and finally with program close out to accomplish cost, technical, and schedule objectives
  • Performs team-based project planning, implementation, and reporting using project and risk management tools and techniques to mitigate cost, schedule, and technical impacts to the organization and the customer
  • Serves as the “voice of the customer” within the organization. Balances and negotiates all changes to the project plan with both internal and external customers to ensure program objectives and expectations are aligned and executable.
  • Works to resolve conflicts among the team (including the external customer), aligns expectations and develops both short/long term executable plans to lead the program to a successful conclusion.

  • Demonstrated exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including experience in formulating and presenting material to Senior Government officials.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish a trust-based relationship with a government customer in a dynamic and challenging environment, and work strategically with a customer to shape program goals and put goals into action expediently.
  • Business skills, financial acumen, and business knowledge required. Complete understanding and current knowledge of industry practices.
  • Proficiency in MS Windows, Word, Excel, Project, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Familiarity with the Company’s competitors and their respective competencies
  • Able to travel as required to meet with existing customers

Knowledge and Experience

  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and general safety rules.
  • Knowledge of laws/regulations governing commercial and US government contracts.
  • Broad knowledge of the aerospace industry and its quality systems and requirements
  • 4 year BA/BS Degree in an engineering discipline preferred
  • Ten (10) years of experience in Contract, Engineering, Project, or Program Management in the Aerospace & Defense industry, electronic experience a plus.
  • Proven experience managing complex control system projects.
  • Strong technical background in aerospace systems and control engineering.
  • Experience representing businesses in relationships with government agencies (DoD)
  • Experience in the domain of Aerospace is a critical requirement. Experience with Commercial Aviation and Military/Defense Aerospace is a significant discriminator.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.
  • DO-178 & DO-254.
