Job Description

Retention Specialist, Domestic Violence RRH Program

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:

Domestic Violence Housing Stabilizer provides an array of services in support of The Whole Child’s goal of promoting children’s emotional well-being and a safe place to call home. The Domestic Violence Housing Stabilizer provides support to families impacted by domestic violence, human trafficking, stalking, or violence as they transition and/or maintain housing in the community. They coordinate housing stability advocacy, provide referrals, and safety plans.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support households in finding and securing safe, affordable housing
  • Create individual service/housing plans that ensure housing stability, addressing each family’s needs and goals
  • Provide clients with housing navigation services to include housing location and counseling service
  • Recruit and advocate with managers, landlords, and property owners to participate in housing program
  • Assists household with identifying internal and external resources to assist with multiple stressors as it relates to homelessness, domestic violence, substance abuse issues, etc.
  • Help families access resources for housing related assistance (i.e. furniture procurement, utility assistance, etc).
  • Assist household with accessing resources and services to increase housing stability (e.g. linkage to primary care physicians, health insurance, food banks)
  • Provides advocacy to address issues and barriers between landlord and participants
  • Completes and submits progress notes in a 24-hour timeframe utilizing the agency’s electronic health record system
  • Assess survivor’s situation and create ongoing development of safety plans
  • Coordinate connection with other services as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality in matters of agency operation, personnel, and clients
  • Exercise good judgment in performance of all duties and responsibilities, including maintaining good boundaries and professional conduct
  • Other related duties as assigned and approved

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Excellent organization, analytical, written and oral communication skills
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment, while exercising sound judgment
  • A critical thinker, with a high level of initiation, motivation and enthusiasm
  • Must be a confident self-starter who can develop effective business relationships, both internally & externally
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency, responsiveness, and attention to detail
  • Skill in communication, including public presentations
  • Prepare periodic reports for executive management, as necessary or requested, to track accomplishment of strategic goals and evaluate work performed

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or other mental health related discipline (Preferred); can be supplemented with relevant experience

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in providing domestic violence services or other victim service provider as a case manager or similar
  • Strong knowledge of knowledge of the social services field
  • 40-hour Domestic Violence Counselor Certification
  • Valid California driver's license and valid auto insurance.

MANDATORY REQUIRMENTS 

  • Requires California driver’s license, personal vehicle, and proof of personal vehicle insurance coverage and the ability to drive for work.
  • Provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination 
  • Successfully compete the following as a condition of hire:
  • Tuberculosis Test
  • Background Screening 

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in office & in the field. 

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and address a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. 
  • Uses computer and other office machinery, (i.e., calculator, copy machine and printer).
  • Constantly converses with staff and clients.
