In our Upper School, you’ll teach and learn alongside one hundred and thirty-two other faculty who embody the same intellectual curiosity, wholesome intensity, and creative spirit as our students. As part of a Professional Learning Community, you’ll meet in teams to design lessons, create assessments, share ideas, and innovate for the future.

Anticipated start date: August 1, 2024

Supervisor: Head of the Upper School

Position Status: This position is a salaried, exempt, full-time or part-time, regular, 10-month position.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in history or related field required; graduate training in history at the master’s or Ph.D. level preferred.

  • Experience teaching history at the secondary and/or college level preferred

  • Expertise in global and/or ancient history preferred

  • Proficiency with interdisciplinary studies and instructional technology

  • Proven success in collaborating with colleagues on curriculum design and lesson planning

OPPORTUNITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach four sections of history classes. Teaching assignments may range from ancient to modern, American to global depending on teacher expertise and departmental needs. Teachers typically have no more than two course preps

  • Co-teach a 3-week immersive, interdisciplinary class during Jan Term

  • Actively participate in professional and curricular development

  • Serve as an advisor to students as part of the school’s larger commitment to student support

  • Contribute to the larger school community through coaching or sponsoring other extracurricular programs 

  • Other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT


While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to become CPR and First Aid Certified.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and may frequently walk on slippery or uneven surfaces. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.

TRAVEL


Travel is primarily local during the regular business day. Overnight and out-of-area travel may also be required.
