The Vanguard School is Hiring a Dean of Students (Grades 7-12) Near Colorado, CO

Job Title: 7-12 Dean of Students

Reports to: 7-12 Principal

Salaried or Hourly: Salaried

FLSA Status: Exempt

Supervisory: Teachers, and Secondary Support Staff

Normal Work Hours: 40 hours per week

Annual Days: 261

Salary: $55,000-$60,000 (commensurate with experience).

General Purpose: The Dean of Students is responsible for the successful coordination and administration of student discipline, attendance, and student services for support of our building leaders, and for keeping the Principal and Assistant Principal informed of all happenings of the secondary program pertaining to discipline and attendance. Serves as a resource for teachers and administrators on matters of student management, conduct, and discipline issues. Assists with the successful coordination and administration of student discipline and attendance in collaboration with building leaders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create an environment that supports and encourages virtuous student behavior.
  • Oversee day-to-day disciplinary issues and student attendance to ensure compliance with school policies (e.g., Code of Conduct, Student Conflict/Bullying guidelines), and serve as the point person for families in these areas.
  • Keep accurate and timely records regarding attendance, disciplinary infractions, and consequences to include preparing letters, attending meetings as needed, and serving as the school’s truancy officer.
  • Communicate clearly and in a timely fashion with students, parents, and appropriate school staff regarding any disciplinary or student success issues.
  • Confer with Director of Operations on security matters as they relate to student discipline.
  • Assists with day-to-day disciplinary issues to ensure compliance with school policies.
  • Provides timely communication and accurate records regarding student behavioral events.
  • Assist students in maintaining high standards of conduct behaviorally and academically. 
  • Work with teachers to incorporate effective student management strategies in their classrooms.
  • Work with families to build and maintain strong relationships. 

Student Services Support

  • Create, monitor, and support MTSS plans as needed. 
  • Work with teachers to incorporate effective student management strategies in their classrooms.

Culture & Climate

  • Serve as a resource for building staff, administrators, and parents in working with students and creating a positive school climate. 
  • Assist students in maintaining high standards of conduct behaviorally and academically. 
  • Work with teachers to incorporate effective student management strategies in their classrooms.
  • Develop and foster community connections that will enhance the educational experience for all students. 
  • Model the school’s values and standards for professional behavior. 

Building and Events

  • Assist with the supervision of the school building during the school day and during school events as assigned.
  • Perform other administrative duties to assist building leaders.
  • Serve as the liaison for after-school programs.

Other Duties and Responsibilities: As needed or assigned. 

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Demonstrated experience in Education. 
  • Strong leadership skills. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to establish trusting and respectful relationships with students. 
  • Commitment to the goals and values of The Vanguard School.

Experience:

  • Have demonstrated two years of satisfactory teaching, administrative, or supervisory experience.
