Scope of Job
Responsible for the design, development and mangement of a research administration educational program for faculty and staff engaged in research activities.
Description of Duties
  • Oversees and leads the accessible design, development and implementation of an educational research training program and initiatives to include the development and maintenance of instructional courses in compliance with applicable local, state and federal guidelines.
  • Conducts ongoing needs assessments within the research area to identify course needs and develops training content for improvement and makesrecommendions for appropriate training methods as needed.
  • Develops and administers research related educational programs and initiatives for campus-wide audiences.
  • Plans, designs, develops and presents traditional, online and hybrid courses in collaboration with subject matter experts in covering research topics, including finding funding, proposal development, external sponsor-specific learning, sponsored project management, reporting, financial management, research systems, and compliance.
  • Plans, coordinates, oversees, and presents seminars, workshops, training and courses on various research and technology related topics.
  • Provides complex expertise to staff and subject matter experts regarding instructional design strategies for the program.
  • Ensures the design, development and evaluation of the research curriculum, instructional methods and materials, and that latest trends are implemented to provide faculty with the best resources available to ensure success in obtaining and effectively managing sponsored projects.
  • Works in collaboration with subject matter experts (SMEs) to create course content and develop training resources.
  • Responsible for the administrative and coordination of duties related to training and organizational development, including but not limited to: scheduling of training events, recruiting training coordinators and speakers, working with subject matter experts, preparing materials, assisting with the marketing of the programs and ensuring employees are kept abreast of training requirements.
  • Creates, maintains, and manages documentation for projects and manages assigned projects through completion.
  • Coordinates and leads training projects and initiatives such as the delivery of face-to-face research training programs, online micro-learning modules, and the development of campus-wide, required compliance training.
  • Designs and implements course assessments to provide on-going evaluation and course adjustments that best meet the needs of faculty.
  • Identifies the need for and develops the design of augmented/virtual reality, immersive learning environments and other innovative approaches to aid in the proefessional development of faculty and staff.
  • Researches and evaluates the continuous quality improvement of all research courses offered to faculty and staff and make recommendations to upper management for new course development.
  • Supports and applies best practices of universal design for learning in the development of course materials that are accessible to all learners. Ensures that all courses and course components enable the intended learning outcomes, as well as meet university values/standards, accessibility requirements, and universal design guidelines.
  • Participates in the hiring, training and evaluation of assigned staff.
  • Stays abreast of emerging technologies and their application to enhancing face-to-face and online courses; recommends effective and creative uses of technology and andragogy to enhance instruction and create new learning opportunities; recommends solutions as appropriate. Represents the department and the University on various committees and in various teaching positions including presenting at various state and/or national conferences.
  • Analyzes and reports training effectiveness through the use of performance evaluations, course completions, grades and/or other metrics and data related to training.
  • Develops and generates reports as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
Preferred Education
Master’s degree in Education, Instructional Design/Technology, Human Resources Management, Organizational Development or a related field from an accredited University.
Licenses/Certifications
None.
Required Experience
  • Four (4) years of experience as an instructional designer or developer, or experience developing and providing professional level training, or
  • Two (2) years of the required experience witha Master’s Degree in Education, Instructional design /technology, Human Resources Management, Organizational Development or a related field.

Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office environment; some travel and weekend work is required. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.UTRGV is a distributed institution, which may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

Knowledge of current and emerging technology, learning and instructional theory, instructional design principles, design process, and interface design principles. Ability to work as a team member and to establish effective working relationships. Ability to effectively use interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects at different stages of completion simultaneously. Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to present to large audiences. Demonstrate a thorough understanding of training strategies and educational concepts of adult learning. Work requires exercise of organizational and time management skills. Proven ability to work closely with top executives to ensure messaging is projected to organizational standards, throughout all possible resources.
