The University of Texas at Tyler is Hiring an Admissions Regional Manager- Houston Near Houston, TX

Job Summary

Working away from the Tyler Campus, this Regional Officer is responsible for providing professional knowledge, advice and counseling skills regarding the undergraduate student admissions and recruitment process. Provides high-level coordination and review of the undergraduate admissions process with focus on prospective students in a defined Texas region. Travel to the Tyler Campus will be required for monthly in-person supervisory meetings, and for main campus events such as registration, commencement, Preview Days and other special events or busy times of the year when support is needed.


Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

  • Develops and implements strategies of the admissions plan; administers admissions policies and procedures for specific programs and activities.
  • Counsels’ prospective students, parents, educational administrators and other interested persons regarding admissions requirements, policies, and procedures.
  • Manages assigned territory for recruitment of prospective students inclusive of travel planning and meetings with high school counselors, students, and other professionals.
  • Visits are scheduled two weeks in advance and follow up with the visit contact person 5-7 days in advance of Visits to confirm arrangements and ensure a successful visit.
  • Send poster mailers to schools for arrival one week in advance of the visit.
  • Contact prospective students at each school by email prior to visit.
  • Follow up with prospects after visits thanking them for attending the presentation and to address prospective student questions.
  • Keep outlook calendar full with a visit each day, allowing 2 hours travel time to and from visits. On days with no visits find other community events or career fairs where UT Tyler can be promoted.
  • Will supervise recruitment staff as the regional market develops.
  • Promotes University opportunities to prospective students by developing and delivering presentations to high schools, businesses, and organizations.
  • Regularly gathers and analyzes information on application and enrollment trends to determine proper workloads.
  • Provides administrative management and coordination of admissions functions and reporting.
  • Reviews admissions applications and makes admissions decisions.
  • Using established policy, evaluates college course credit and records.
  • Coordinates information sessions and event planning for admissions activities.
  • Supervises the assigned student workers as appropriate and coordinates their daily tasks and schedules.
  • Serves as the main contact for the assigned admissions process.
  • Develop a list of guidance counselors and community college contacts for the region and keep it updated.
  • Make sure the copy on the Admissions Drive is current at all times.
  • When counselors change, update the spreadsheet.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of the admissions process in order to train staff, pinpoint and resolve issues and serve as a backup for assigned supervisor.
  • Establishes a high level of integrity and ethical behavior in dealing with confidential information.
  • Researches and confirms applicant residency status and maintains up to date on admissions policies and procedures.
  • Attends university meetings and participates in committees as needed.
  • Manages the interactions between the office and outside service providers.
  • May recommend policy and procedural changes to improve efficiency and effectiveness in Admissions recruitment and/or enrollment practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Three (3) year of experience counseling students in admissions, financial aid, or in a closely related area.
  • Valid Texas driver's license.


Preferred Education/Experience

  • Master's degree.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Other Information

  • Position is required to work two Saturdays per semester for Preview Day and all Commencement ceremonies as well as other weekend events as assigned.
  • Must have reliable vehicle.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code Section 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
