The University of Chicago Medicine is Hiring a Project Manager - Design and Construction Near Chicago, IL

UChicago Medicine seeks to hire a Project Manager to join our Design and Contruction team in Chicago, IL!

Join a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as a Project Manager, responsible for providing project management services in the delivery of a new healthcare building focusing on cancer care services. The total value of this new 575,000 SF facility is $815 million with an anticipated opening in 2027. This role will also assist in the completion of an offsite multi-specialty facility of 130,000 SF and a project value of $150 million, opening in 2024.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide Project Management services for capital construction projects by managing cost, scope, schedule, resources and risk. Candidate will develop and document intended scope, identify associated cost and schedule based on that scope and identify required internal and external resources required to deliver the scope. Candidate will identify risk to project deliver and develop mitigating strategies to avoid or minimize potential negative outcomes. Manage and report variance according to developed plan
  • Candidate will provide on-site supervision of construction phases by chairing owner-architect-contractor progress meetings to ensure the project is completed in a manner consistent with the contract documents and intended scope
  • Provide oversight to all project delivery activities, include support during planning and activation phases. Manage a matrixed organization for successful project delivery. These include resources internal and external to the department within the Medical Center enterprise
  • Direct and manage resources external to the enterprise such as contracted designers, builders, skilled trades and other professional service providers or vendors
  • Continually monitor outside influences such as regulatory agencies, market and technology changes that support or hinder the efficiently accomplishment of department process and procedures
  • Provide project controls by updating ledger software to monitor invoice and expenses. Manage and updating project schedules within identified software. Develop project charters to for scope identification and documentation. Manage and document project issues and risks. Provide change management by documenting alterations to project plan and maintaining up-to-date change logs
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, understanding interdependencies and constrained resources. Phase projects accordingly to meet client needs as they affect direct patient care
  • Perform other duties departmental duties as identified and assigned by senior management

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree (Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or Project Management Preferred) A equivalent amount of education/experience in these fields would be considered in lieu of a specific degree in the design or construction industry
  • A minimum of five (fifteen preferred) years in the construction industry providing project management to design and construction projects
  • Experience in managing scope, schedule, cost, risk and resources in a capital design and construction setting
  • Demonstrated ability to provide project management phases of initiation, design, implementation and project closing in a design and construction environment. Demonstrated ability to control project while managing scope, schedule, cost, risk and resources
  • Knowledge of building codes, City of Chicago codes and regulations and other regulatory compliance in the design and construction industry
  • Demonstrated ability to manage several projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability for problem-solving, critical thinking, independent work, technical and administrative skills, and computer literacy.

Position Details:

In this role, we anticipate that you will generally work approximately 40 hours per week. We anticipate that you will generally be scheduled to work the first shift, from approximately 8am-4:30pm and will not be scheduled for on-call shifts. The days of the week that you are scheduled will not vary depending on the week and we anticipate that you will be scheduled to work on weekdays (Monday-Friday)on systems, metering and relaying

  • Makes motor repairs
  • Installs low-voltage wiring and cabling
  • Works from blueprints and schematics to determine location and layout of circuits, conduits and wiring
  • Installs new local services for lighting and appliances
  • Uses hand and power tools
  • Requisitions materials and supplies as needed
  • Keeps work area neat, clean and safe
  • Completes required departmental paperwork in a timely and legible fashion
  • Communicates with patients, visitors, and other Hospital employees with tact and courtesy
  • Follows through on all assigned duties until completion
  • Maintains personal appearance in accordance with departmental policy on dress and uniform
  • Performs other duties as requested by senior management

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma.
  • Five years experience at the journeyman or senior level. Substantial knowledge of the work of the Operational Section.
  • Successful completion of electrical apprentice program . Class “B” electricians card.
  • Must have knowledge of electrical codes.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and communicate with others by writing.
  • Knowledge of use and maintenance of power and hand equipment used on the job.
  • Must be able to work from ladders and scaffolds.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the work expected in an efficient manner.
  • Must have knowledge of safety rules, practices and equipment.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively and work with other people.
  • Must be capable of strenuous physical activity.
  • NICET qualified for maintenance and installation of fire alarm systems.
  • Ability to handle routine contacts with tact, courtesy and efficiency.
