POSITION DESCRIPTION: Oversees the district construction’s public information contracts to ensure consultant services are performed in an effective and professional manner; prepares contract advertisement documents and serves as a technical review committee (trc) member for selections; monitor budget and process invoices for public information consultant services contracts within the required timeframe to ensure the most efficient use of funds.

Performs community awareness activities relating to construction by meeting periodically with construction project managers to determine appropriate community awareness needs for projects approaching construction; ensuring the development and implementation of community awareness plans prior to beginning of construction; coordinating the dissemination of information to the public in a timely manner; responding to field inquiries from the media and the public and routing to appropriate personnel for response if necessary; and attending public hearings and meetings at the direction of the assistant district construction engineer.

Performs public information/relations for the district construction office by acting as a liaison between the district public information office and the district construction office; oversees the coordination and implementation of special events involving the district construction office; assisting the district public information office in the planning, coordination and presentation of media and/or governmental events involving the construction office; and assisting in the issuance of directives and memoranda pertaining to public information and critical issues.

Ensures the district construction’s websites are maintained with accurate and most recent information and ensures other construction related publications are updated as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: organizational skills and ability to plan, organize, coordinate and schedule work assignments; problem solving techniques, conflict resolution; basic math, editing and proofreading techniques; ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing to the general public, work contacts and co-workers; planning and organizing special events, delivering presentations and using various software packages; journalistic style writing, including press release formats.

OTHER JOB RELATED REQUIREMENTS: DURING A DECLARED EMERGENCY EVENT, THE INCUMBENT WILL BE REQUIRED TO ASSIST THE DISTRICT AS NEEDED. RESPONSIBLE FOR ADHERING TO THE PROVISIONS AND REQUIREMENTS OF SECTION 215.22, FLORIDA STATUTES (F.S.); RELATED TO STATE COMPTROLLER’S RULES AND DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION’S INVOICE PROCESSING AND WARRANT DISTRIBUTION PROCEDURES. THIS POSITION MAY BE REQUIRED TO WORK EXTRAORDINARY HOURS.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR ITS EQUIVALENT; 2 YEARS EXPERIENCE IN A RELATED FIELD CAN SUBSTITUTE FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR EQUIVALENCY.

A Competitive Area Differential (CAD) additive in the amount of $1,268.80 will be added to the annual salary.
