Specific Responsibilities:

This is a Nursing Program Specialist position in the immunization program. This is a countywide position working in the immunization van outreaches, as well as helping at the Centers as needed. Work is performed under the supervision of the Community Health Nursing Consultant. This position requires independent judgment, initiative, applying general knowledge of business practices and skill in applying instructions to accomplish various job functions.

This position is designated as a sensitive position and is required to maintain confidential information in accordance with the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) Palm Beach County Health Department (CHD) Information Security Policy, Protocols and Procedures. Confidential Data Sets: Immunize, Health Management System (HMS) and Florida SHOTS with clinical information including demographics, Immunizations, the TB module and Merlin. This position may view, review, update and release confidential information, including but not limited to, entering data from the data loggers on the temperatures.

Acts as a case manager for families and contacts of the Perinatal Hepatitis B program through case management services, education, and home visits in conjunction with the state DOH Perinatal Hepatitis Program, the Health Centers, and private providers in the community. Updates information in Merlin, Florida SHOTS and HMS data bases, and participates in the reminder recall program.

Participates as a member of the vaccine management team including but not limited to, following guidelines for proper vaccine storage and management, and performing the necessary activities related to vaccine accountability. Works with other Health Department programs as needed, and actively participates in educating the community about immunization issues and the control of vaccine preventable diseases.

Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:

  • Knowledge in the assessment of immunizations, vaccine storage and handling.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of program management and delivery of health services.
  • Knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and techniques. Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology. Knowledge of community organizations.
  • Ability to apply the consultative process in problem solving activities.
  • Ability to collect, interpret, and analyze statistical, demographic, and service data.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Licensure/registratlon/certlfication requirements (If applicable, list the appropriate Florida Statute or federal regulation cite):

  • This occupation requires licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes, and in accordance with Rule 6489 Florida Administrative Code.

Other Job-related requirements for this position:

  • Incumbent may be required to work before, during and or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the Incumbent Includes working in special needs shelters, or performing other emergency duties Including, but not limited to, responses to or threats Involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • This position require travel.
  • Complete the Immunization Training Class.

Working hours: (A) Daily from 8:00am to 5:00pm Total hours in workweek 8 (C) Explain any variation in work (split shift, rotation, etc.)

  • Work some evenings and weekends outreaches.
