The South Suburban Council is Hiring an Assessment Counselor Near Hazel, IL

We are actively seeking a skilled and compassionate Assessment Counselor to join our team at our alcohol and substance use treatment facility. As an Assessment Counselor, you will play a pivotal role in evaluating individuals seeking assistance with alcohol and substance use disorders. Your expertise will contribute to the development of tailored treatment plans, ensuring the delivery of comprehensive care to support individuals on their journey to recovery.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct in-depth assessments of individuals with alcohol and substance use disorders, employing standardized tools and interviews to gather pertinent information.
2. Develop a thorough understanding of clients' substance use history, mental health status, and relevant contextual factors influencing their recovery journey.
3. Establish a supportive and non-judgmental rapport with clients during the assessment process, fostering a conducive environment for open communication.
4. Evaluate and document risk factors, safety concerns, and co-occurring mental health issues to inform the development of individualized treatment plans.
5. Collaborate closely with the treatment team to share assessment findings and contribute to the formulation of comprehensive and effective treatment strategies.
6. Stay abreast of the latest developments in addiction assessment tools and treatment modalities, integrating evidence-based practices into the assessment process.
7. Maintain meticulous and confidential records of assessment information, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.
8. Provide psychoeducation to clients and their families regarding the assessment process, treatment options, and the path to recovery.
9. Collaborate with fellow professionals, including therapists, counselors, and medical staff, to ensure a holistic and integrated approach to treatment.
10. Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and a trauma-informed approach in all interactions with clients.
Qualifications:
1. Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
2. State licensure or certification as a substance abuse counselor or relevant mental health professional.
3. Proven experience in conducting assessments within alcohol and substance use treatment settings.
4. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport with individuals facing substance use challenges.
5. Knowledge of evidence-based assessment tools, diagnostic criteria, and treatment modalities for substance use disorders.
6. Commitment to maintaining ethical standards and confidentiality in the assessment process.
7. Understanding of trauma-informed care and cultural competence.
