Position Title: Accounting Analyst
Reports to: Controller
Summary
The Accounting Analyst is responsible for providing support to management in analyzing, auditing, and interpreting financial data while providing accurate financial reports and customized budget analysis for both internal and external parties. This role is responsible for the month-end close process, financial forecasting, and interpretation / application of accounting standards. The individual will also maintain financial policies / procedures, review the work of others, and may directly supervise others; however, this is secondary to the primary function of the role.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Prepare monthly closing journal entries and maintain reconciliations for designated balance sheet and income statement accounts.
Accurately and timely complete the month-end and year-end accounting and/or other business close cycles.
Perform monthly close analysis and reporting to facilitate understanding of monthly results against the financial plan. 
Analyze department spending variances and identify operational drivers of the variances to ensure appropriate plans are in place to deliver on company and departmental financial goals.
Draft financial statements for review and delivery to Department Heads, Controller, CEO and Board of Directors.
Perform various analyses and ad hoc reporting on financial or operational data.
Compile data and schedules and complete various filings (e.g., Grant Reporting, Property Tax Exemption, Workers Compensation Insurance, Sales Tax, etc.)
Review all invoices and expense reports for accuracy and legitimacy prior to payment. Actively participates in performing any accounts payable tasks during peak demand on department resources.
Lead in the development of the annual budget and any re-forecasts. Also provides support for the long-range strategic planning process.
Review grant agreements and pledge donations for complete and accurate reporting in compliance with Accounting Standards.
Ensure compliance with the organization’s Capital Expenditure policy and maintain fixed asset records including additions, retirements, transfers and depreciation.
Review and update accounting processes and procedures as needed.
Serve as primary contact for assistance in external audit and Form 990 requests to ensure seamless and efficient audit and filing processes.
Evaluate areas for process enhancement, actively engaging in ad hoc team projects and analyses.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge and proven application of GAAP, accounting standards and accounting principles / practices.
Technical knowledge of financial statement preparation.
Keen understanding and proven ability to apply revenue recognition standards and audit techniques.
Practical exposure to account reconciliations and accounts payable.
Intermediate understanding of financial forecasting and budgeting
Keen analytical skills with a detail-oriented approach Intermediate-Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency
Proven self-motivated and capable of driving tasks with limited managerial oversight.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Computer proficiency with advanced knowledge of MS Excel and proficient in other MS Office applications and accounting systems
Demonstrated ability to manage priorities and work independently, with minimal supervision.
Excellent organizational skills with demonstrated ability to plan, organize and execute multiple tasks by assessing and prioritizing work projects.
Ability to make sound decisions and effectively handle stressful situations in a professional manner.
Ability to complete work in a timely and accurate manner.
Experience driving business performance.
 
Experience, Education, Certifications & Licenses
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or equivalent work experience
1-3 years of financial planning and/or accounting experience
CPA is preferred.
Non-Profit accounting experience preferred.
Proficiency in QuickBooks for Non-Profit organizations is highly desired.
Experience with Salesforce is a plus.
