The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has a job opening for a Social Services Program Director for the Huntsville, AL location.

  • JOB SUMMARY : Plans, directs, coordinates, and monitors the day-to-day operations of a Corps Social Service Program such as Corps Salvage and Rehabilitation Center, Transitional Living, Homeless Services, Emergency Services;
  • develops, implements, and evaluates program operations and services; supervises all program staff and ensures work is in compliance with established policies and procedures as well as local, state, and federal regulations;

researches and prepares grant proposals and secures program funding; prepares and monitors program expenditures in compliance with program budget.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES : Knowledge of the principles and practices of social service program development and administration.

Knowledge of the procedures for applying for, securing and maintaining grant funding. Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations governing social service programs.

Knowledge of social service resources and agencies in the community. Knowledge of effective communication and motivation practices.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of facility management. Knowledge of the principles and practices of budget administration.

Ability to motivate, lead, supervise, and evaluate subordinate personnel. Ability to provide leadership in the community to promote program services.

Ability to perform public speaking. Ability to develop, implement, and enforce program policies and procedures. Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during state of crisis.

Ability to develop program plans and goals based on client's needs. Ability to evaluate the client's progress toward program goals.

Ability to work with the public encompassing all types of behaviors. Ability to interview clients and obtain pertinent information.

Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and complete case notes and client records. Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work in order to accomplish work in compliance with quality standards and deadlines.

Ability to build and maintain effective and professional working relationships with clients and community agencies. Ability to become and remain certified to drive a Salvation Army vehicle per Salvation Army insurance requirements.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE : Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field and four years progressively responsible experience administering and developing social service programs, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS : Valid State Drivers License

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS : Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.

5-10% of work time. Work requires performance of duties in social services environment where exposure to communicable and infectious diseases are possible.
