POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Outreach and Education Coordinator

LOCATION/DEPT: City Mission - Stop-It Program

REPORTS TO (TITLE): Stop-It Program Manager

FLSA CATEGORY: Non-Exempt

STATUS TYPE: RFT

OUTCOMES

Outreach and education will equip organizations, community members, teens and young adults to 1) understand, recognize and appropriately respond to Gender-based violence and Human Trafficking. 2) identify survivors of human trafficking or other Gender-based violence and make referrals to appropriate services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Conducts educational sessions with teens and young adults within The Salvation Army Corps that serve the targeted communities as well as to other organizations that serve teens and young adults.
  2. Identifies locations for and coordinates details of trainings, both community based and organizational.
  3. Maintains awareness of current trends, laws, and dynamics in regard to Human Trafficking and Gender-based violence and updates curriculum accordingly.
  4. Develops handout materials, including resources and important information from the curriculum.
  5. Develops online resources and online training.
  6. Conducts trainings catered to specific organizations and communities based on populations served and types of Gender-based violence/Human Trafficking experienced in the area.
  7. Develops culturally sensitive material.
  8. Administers required training paperwork, including sign-ins, pre/post tests and evaluations for each training conducted.
  9. Attends community trainings and events in order to ensure all materials are up to date.
  10. Identifies community resources and assists in developing linkages to increase Stop-It program's capacity for community training and awareness events as well as resources trained on the dynamics of Gender-based violence/Human Trafficking and how to effectively engage survivors.
  11. Provides technical assistance and follow up to trainees on coalition building, service provision, and identification of survivors.
  12. Develops and hosts community awareness workshops designed to educate the community on the existence of Gender-based violence/Human Trafficking and resources to equip the community to respond.
  13. In consultation with their supervisor, initiates contact with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services as a mandated reporter when child abuse or neglect is suspected.
  14. In consultation with their supervisor, initiates contact with the Elder Abuse Hotline as a mandated reporter of elder abuse and neglect.
  15. Keeps supervisor informed of participants in crisis who may be at-risk, and any situation or incident that may require immediate attention, to prevent harm to anyone by following the agency emergency plan in the Policy and Procedures Manual. In a timely fashion, records such contacts/incidents in a Safe from Harm or incident report.
  16. Maintains Stop-It hotline as assigned and shared with other Stop-It staff.
  17. Completes statistical reports, and other required reports and record keeping as required by the grant.

Intra-Agency Responsibilities

  1. Studies agency policies, procedure, and programs. May contribute ideas and suggestions for change to Director with the knowledge/participation of the immediate supervisor.
  2. Attends Quarterly City Mission staff meetings.
  3. Attends weekly Stop-It team meetings
  4. Engages in bi-weekly professional supervision with designated supervisor.
  5. Performs special administrative assignments or duties as may be delegated.

Community Relations

  1. Attends inter-agency meetings and participates in local networks, as appropriate.
  2. Participates in networking with community groups/agencies/organizations to provide in order to mutually provide resources and referrals.

Continuing Education

  1. Participates in professional seminars, conferences and other meetings for continued education and professional knowledge.
  2. Maintains an active interest and involvement in the social work field, especially in the areas of GBV and human trafficking, and incorporates new developments into practice whenever possible.

Additional Duties as assigned.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports to the Stop-It Program Manager

This individual relates to, and interacts with, a wide range of contacts both within and outside The Salvation Army.

In contacts related to this position's duties, this individual acts as a representative of The Salvation Army and its mission.

PERFORMANCE MEASURMENTS

  • This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved as well as the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals.
  • A 30, 60, and 90-day performance review will be conducted.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • A Bachelor's degree or higher preferred from an accredited college or university required. A BSW is preferred, but a major in humans services or related field is acceptable.
  • A master's degree in social work or related field is a plus.
  • At least 3 years of experience working in the GBV and or human trafficking field.
  • Experience in public speaking is required.
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish Speaking) is a plus.
  • Persons with lived experience are encouraged to apply.

POSITION LIMITATIONS

  • This individual will only commit Salvation Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
  • This individual will keep the Stop-It program manager informed on all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.
  • This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position is required to do moderate physical work and must be able to lift 10 pounds.
  • In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use a computer and other office equipment.
  • Must be able to visit sites throughout the Chicago area.
  • Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors.
