About the River Merchant
With a seasonal patio that overlooks the Cuyahoga River and a unique rustic gastropub vibe, The River Merchant is Kent's premier riverfront restaurant! We are located at 911 North Mantua Street in Kent, Ohio, only a half-mile from downtown Kent. Our hours of operation are 11 AM to 9 PM (Sun–Thu) and 11 AM to 10 PM (Fri–Sat).
Summary of job posting
We are looking for a line cook (full-time and PM-shift availability preferred) who is willing to contribute to our team goals, is calm under pressure, and who is dependable, diligent, attentive, and communicative. In applying for this position, applicants will be cross-trained in multiple areas (including prep and dish).
Responsibilities
• Prepares, cooks, and plates all menu items in an efficient, clean, and timely manner
• Ensures that temperature and presentation of all menu items meet operational guidelines (i.e., ensuring all dishes leaving the window are reputable and unblemished)
• Has a proficient understanding of the potential allergens in each menu item
• Stocks and re-stocks all food items on designated station
• Maintains sanitary procedures throughout the shift according to health and safety regulations
• Verbally articulates instructions with ease; communicates well with other restaurant staff
• Handles rudimentary kitchen equipment (e.g., knives, deep-fryers, ovens, grills) comfortably
• Follows instructions, recipes, and guidelines proficiently
• Follows the provided opening and/or closing responsibility protocols, including cleaning and maintenance tasks
• Is not afraid to ask questions if something is unclear or needs to be restated
Requirements
• Reliable transportation to/from the River Merchant (Kent, OH) (Required)
• Prior restaurant industry experience (Preferred)
• High integrity with a great attendance record
• Able to learn and adapt to new environments
• Able to lift and carry up to 50 lb, climb ladders, and operate equipment
• Able to work in high-temperature conditions, particularly in the summer months
• Able to stand and walk for the duration of the shift
• Good communication skills, including the ability vocalize properly, listen effectively, and provide insightful feedback as needed
Shift duration availability (M–S)
• AM shift: 7 hr (8 AM to 3 PM)
• PM shift: 7–8 hr (3 PM to 10 or 11 PM)
• Mid-shift: 10–11 hr (11 AM to 9 or 10 PM)
