The Rhodes School is Hiring a School Counselor Near Houston, TX

Job Summary:

Work with school faculty and staff, students, parents, and community to plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program at school assigned. Counsel students to fully develop each student’s academic, career, personal, and social abilities and address the needs of special population students. Coordinates with the Executive Director for Instructional Programs and Accountability to meet District objectives

Duties and Responsibilities:

1

Guidance

  • Teach campus developmental guidance curriculum consistent with district’s guidance program plan and tailored to campus needs.
  • Assist teachers in the teaching of the guidance-related curriculum.
  • Guide individuals and groups of students to develop education plans and career awareness.

504

  • Consult with and assist campus-based LSSPs, school nurses, regular class teachers, administrators, and parents to meet the educational needs of students eligible under Section 504.
  • Assist campus in the development, implementation, and/or participation in the professional development of instructional methodologies that allow curriculum accommodations and differentiated instruction based on student learning needs resulting from a disability, specific condition, or impairment.
  • Assist campus 504 teams in reviewing Individualized 504 Plans of students who move into the District and facilitate the development of comparable accommodations at the receiving school.
  • Assist campus 504 teams in facilitating 504 Manifestation Meetings and developing Behavior Support Plans for 504 eligible students who demonstrate chronic behavior problems.
  • Assist campus 504 teams in reviewing Individualized 504 Plans of students who move into the District and facilitate the development of comparable accommodations at the receiving school.

Counseling 

  • Consult parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant people to enhance their work with students.
  • Work with school and community personnel to bring together resources for students.
  • Maintain a communication system that effectively collects and disseminates information to other professionals as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with other school professionals and representatives of community resources.
  • Use an effective referral process to assist students and others to use special programs and services.
  • Counsel individual students and small groups with presenting needs and concerns.

Assessment

  • Participate in planning and evaluation of campus standardized testing program.
  • Campus Testing Coordinator 
  • Assist in master scheduling, course selection, for all students, as appropriate.
  • Manage student schedules, develop and maintain special programs lists student records, files, and other student data, as appropriate.
  • Interpret tests and other appraisal results appropriately and communicate to school personnel, students, and their parents.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of student assessment.

5.

Program Management

  • Plan school guidance and counseling programs to ensure that they meet identified needs, priorities, and program objectives.
  • Implement a comprehensive and balanced program.
  • Works with the Campus Principal to assist in the planning and implementation of the District’s Career Day. 
  • Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the guidance program and individual activities and make changes based on findings.
  • Educate the school staff, parents, and community about the guidance program through a public information program.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all required physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents.

Report Cards and Progress Reports:

  • Assist with reminding principals to send reminders to teachers about grades due for both progress reports and report cards. Reminding them to Post and Finalize.
  • Review Grade Verification Reports for Report Cards and sends them to teachers 
  • Review all Teacher Grade Change Requests; make sure campus principal has signed off on the form. 
  • Work with teachers regarding the recommendation of student schedule changes.

Professional

  • Adhere to ethical and legal standards and model behavior that is professional, and responsible.
  • Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignments.

Other

  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques.
  • Report promptly to the principal any accident or illness of staff or students.
  • Other duties as assigned by administration.
  • Promote, participate, and facilitate in a teamwork center manner.

Education:

A Master’s degree in guidance counseling 

Valid Texas counseling certificate 

Work Experience:

Three years of teaching experience preferred

Special Knowledge/Skill 

  • Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Knowledge of student achievement data and how it relates to student intervention

Supervisory Responsibilities

May supervise assigned counseling aide(s) and clerical employee(s).

Working/Environmental Conditions/Mental Demands/Physical Demands:

  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Ability to carry and/or lift less than 15 pounds.
