Together, our interrelated programs provide a whole-person, whole-family, and whole-life approach that unlocks solutions for a lifetime.Salary Range: $165,000 - $180,000 The Foundling�s External Affairs division focuses on carrying out the Foundling�s mission, vision, and values with its external partners from local, state, and federal government, community organizations, advocacy groups, and press and media. The Vice President of External Affairs will develop and lead a wide range of strategies focused on building the profile of the Foundling, overseeing our budgetary and legislative requests, as well as our marketing and communications campaigns.

Responsibilities

Position Summary:The Foundling’s External Affairs division focuses on carrying out the Foundling’s mission, vision, and values with its external partners from local, state, and federal government, community organizations, advocacy groups, and press and media. The Vice President of External Affairs will develop and lead a wide range of strategies focused on building the profile of the Foundling, overseeing our budgetary and legislative requests, as well as our marketing and communications campaigns. The Vice President of External Affairs will report directly to the Chief of Strategy and Operations Officer. The External Affairs division compromises of the Foundling’s governmental affairs portfolio and its marketing and communication division. The Vice President of External Affairs will work with the executive management team and the Foundling’s internal and external stakeholders.

Position Description:

  • Build a strategy and team for the government affairs, community engagement, marketing and communications portfolios that will broaden programmatic reach and deepen impact, through well-defined audiences and related measurable goals.
  • Manage day to day operations, while leading and representing the NY Foundlings long-term strategic external affairs goals.
  • Serve as an enthusiastic, authentic, and approachable representative of the New York Foundling.
  • Build new and support existing relationships with external stakeholders across sectors including but not limited to government, business, civic, real estate, and nonprofit, etc
  • Lead the Foundling’s governmental agenda, recommending, developing and implementing strategies on policy, regulatory, and funding opportunities at the City, State and Federal levels.
  • Provide leadership to and work collaboratively with executive leadership on relevant local, state, and federal issues and legislation, including legislative budget and research advocacy.
  • Monitor and disseminate legislative and policy updates relevant to all divisions of New York Foundling, including city, state, and federal hearings, legislation, budget, and advocacy efforts.
  • Testify or draft testimony for legislative hearings.
  • Develop and refine The New York Foundling’s "core" messages to ensure organizational consistency.
  • Oversee marketing initiatives of the Foundling including but not limited to our brand campaign “Building Futures” with optimal impact in multiple mediums across diverse audiences.
  • Design and execute social media and digital strategy to increase awareness of the Foundling and its work as well as identify significant media and public policy issues that can be leveraged to support The Foundling’s work, and create and implement plans to exploit them.
  • Supervise external consultants that assist with advocacy, marketing and communications, and legislative affairs.
  • Manage tours, conferences, events, speaking opportunities and messaging for the Foundling
  • Anticipate external threats and develop strategies to address those
  • Oversee the design and implementation of policies and programs that enhance the Foundling's reputation in the community.
  • Manage lobbying tracking and reporting at City and State levels.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from an accredited four-year college/university required with 10 years minimum of professional experience and strong networks in philanthropy, press, and public media.
  • Master’s degree in Marketing, Communication, Public Affairs or related field preferred and 5 years minimum years of professional experience and strong networks in philanthropy, press, and public media
  • Excellent written communication skills and can translate complex content to key stakeholders, adapting framing and messaging to the audience and the platform.
  • Commitment to teamwork and an integrated approach to project delivery
  • Ability to attend events after hours and/or evenings as needed
  • Regular and punctual time and attendance, and adherence to The Foundling’s and your department’s specific time and attendance policies and protocol.
  • Consistent demonstrated commitment to The Foundling’s mission, vision and values (Compassion, Dignity, Family and Community, Diversity, Excellence).
  • Adherence to The Foundling’s employee policies, Code of Conduct and applicable rules, laws, regulations or bargaining agreements.
  • [If applicable:] Appropriate engagement with support departments to ensure appropriate and timely hiring, performance management, investigation, discipline, suspension, and restructuring decisions concerning direct reports. Regular supervision and performance evaluation of direct reports.
  • All other duties and/or tasks that may be assigned.

Salary Range: $165,000 - $180,000
