About the Team

The Enterprise Services and Public Affairs (ESPA) team's mission is to enhance how our stakeholders perceive and experience Citi. We protect the reputation of Citi, its businesses and the brand through direct and indirect communication with Citi's various stakeholders, including our colleagues. The Corporate Communications team is a nimble team in ESPA that covers a broad scope of responsibilities, ranging from Executive communications and public engagements to corporate reputation programs as well as communications that support our various functions. The nature of the work provides a dynamic environment where members of the team serve as company spokespeople to media, drive engagement with colleagues and develop external and internal digital communications for a global workforce of more than 240,000 colleagues. Within Citi, the team works with many internal partners, including senior leadership, and regularly coordinates closely with other members of the ESPA team across the world.

About the Role

The SVP, Personal Banking (Credit Cards) will be the day-to-day lead of our Cards businesses. This role will drive the strategic direction for as well as execute impactful activations and PR campaigns that promote Citi's products and services to consumers. This individual will help us take our work to the next level, helping us further break through with consumer media, drive consumer affection and connect Citi to culture nationwide. This integrated work will include a mix of channels including earned media, thought leadership, integrated campaigns, influencer work, data-driven storytelling and more.

This role sits within Citi's U.S. Personal Banking and Wealth Management Public Affairs team - a creative, nimble, high energy, fast-moving, dedicated group that values a proactive, collaborative communications approach and the ability to work under tight deadlines while upholding the highest professional and ethical standards. The SVP will manage internal and external communications for Citi's U.S. Personal Bank, inclusive of two U.S. credit card businesses - Branded Cards and Retail Services - and marketing. This individual will work closely with these businesses to protect and enhance our reputation with media and key stakeholders. This role reports to the Head of U.S. Personal Banking Communications.

This role will:

  • Develop proactive strategies, programs and tactics to promote products and services, including proprietary, co-brand and private label credit cards, ThankYou Rewards, Flex Pay, embedded payments and marketing activities, to the end consumer and in tandem, support business goals.
  • Work as a strategic counselor and collaborative partner within the firm - building relationships with key business leaders within Global Communications and U.S. Personal Banking - as well as with external agencies and key external partners.
  • Help shape overall consumer communications strategy along with the team.
  • Lead the team in ideation and execution of innovative influencer campaigns on social channels and bring disruptive ideas to the table to drive earned media value.
  • Write and edit press releases and other communications materials including talking points, press statements, award submissions, pitches, and other briefing materials.
  • Maintain/build relationships with outlets covering the credit card industry and consumer reporters within relevant sectors, including lifestyle, travel, entertainment, retail, customer experience, and e-commerce.
  • Identify profile building activities for key business leaders and help to systematically evolve a thoughtful approach to executive visibility on LinkedIn.
  • Maintain a passion for protecting and enhancing the reputation of our firm through strategic issues management.
  • Staff events to manage press activities and speaking engagements.
  • Develop internal communications strategy and assist with town hall preparation, as well as written and video messages.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferable in communications or another related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of work experience in public relations, preferably in personal financial services communications.
  • Experience working across the entire marketing mix, building and launching omnichannel communication strategies, working directly with marketing teams or as part of an IAT structure.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly proactive, determined and results driven.
  • Interest in and deep understanding of the consumer media landscape and ability to leverage media relationships for both product launches as well as ongoing media pitches that connect Citi's products and services to key cultural moments.
  • A strong background in developing integrated communications campaigns with a focus on media relations, social media, influencer marketing and experiential/events.
  • Creative mindset and ability to generate innovative ideas to create surround sound for the business.
  • A team player with a track record of success delivering high-quality work in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated project management and decision-making skills.
  • Superb judgment, problem-solving ability and resourcefulness.
