The Marwin Company is Hiring a Senior Manufacturing Engineer Near West Columbia, SC

Position Summary: 

Under the direction of Marwin’s Engineering Manger the Senior Manufacturing Engineer will assist in monitoring current operations to help determine more efficient production processes. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer's responsibilities include analyzing operations, designing workflows and production processes, reducing inefficiency, and ensuring that final products meet established quality standards. This role is responsible for, but not limited to, assisting in continuous improvement and documentation of plant processes, equipment, workflow design, Six Sigma variation reduction, and uptime improvements. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will assist with direction and oversight provided to operation’s teammates as well as interns. The development and implementation of processes for ongoing quality and innovative improvements in safety and productivity are a key function of this role. To be successful in this role the Senior Manufacturing Engineer should be able to: evaluate existing systems and identify and design new systems that maximize productivity, reduce wastefulness and production issues, are cost-efficient, and ensure high product quality.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain work instructions and manufacturing specifications.

• Identify and recommend methods for improving worker efficiency and reducing waste of materials and utilities.

• Collaborate cross-functionally to facilitate production process and evaluate potential changes.

• Maintain expertise in all aspects of operational process as well as methods to improve processes. This includes, but is not limited to, electrical, mechanical, and information technology, product specifications, Six Sigma, Statistical Process Control (SPC), Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED), Kaizen, 5S.

• Monitor and analyze the root causes of significant production downtime in area of responsibility. Develop and recommend (through both written and oral methods of communication) options and courses of action to implement improvements to operational processes, reduce non-value added work and raw materials waste, and provide information and commentary pertinent to deliberations.

• Lead Process Improvement meetings with Quality Supervisor, Safety Supervisor, Maintenance Manager, Production Supervisors/MGR., and other operators in the area of responsibility.

• Prioritize the noteworthy safety, quality, and production issues and develop projects to alleviate the concerns of the operators. Communicate the status of the projects to the plant staff and to the operators in follow-up meetings.

• Formulate cost and expenditure estimates, including material and labor requirements, used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing and scheduling work for special projects; selection of vendors or subcontractors; continue to monitor and analyze project status at regular intervals for the duration of the project, making adjustments and resolving issues as needed.

Job Description:

• Responsible for the safety of operators by using best practices and engineering processes to eliminate or minimize hazardous working conditions in area of responsibility.

• Training staff for new processes and creating work instructions and manuals for existing and new equipment

• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

• Conduct time studies including labor utilization, workflow and layout, process improvement and standardization.

• Utilizing Lean Six Sigma methodologies and tools to lead continuous improvement.

• Mechanical aptitude and willing to get hands-on with equipment and process.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Degree in an Engineering Discipline – preferably Industrial or Mechanical

• 3-5 years of experience minimum, hands on critical.

• Engineering and Technology, Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.

• Production and Processing, Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

• Mechanical, Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

• Design, Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.

• Mathematics, Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.

• Advanced knowledge of industrial production machinery, processes, and standards

• Proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD, SolidWorks (or similar), and other related programs

• Working knowledge of Six Sigma – preferably Green Belt

• Experience in Lean Manufacturing and familiar with Lean tools, i.e.- 5S, SMED, Kaizen

• Self-starter, able to work individually as well as in a team

• Ability to lead small groups/teams and facilitate meetings

• Relevant work experience in an industrial manufacturing environment

• Strong communication and presentation skills

• Troubleshooting skills and attention to detail

• Documentation and organization skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to present clear and concise information to varied levels within the organization

• Bi-lingual (Spanish) preferred
