Reports to: Head of Middle School
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Develop curriculum materials, including course outlines, syllabi, and other instructional materials with the planning team
  • Carry out all responsibilities associated with teaching the assigned classes
  • Conduct before and after-school tutorials as scheduled
  • Participate in department, faculty, team, and grade-level meetings as called
  • Ensure that students adhere to The Lovett School behavioral guidelines and expectations
  • Is involved in the life of the school outside of the classroom
  • Engage in community and position with professionalism and punctuality
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Studies or Humanities and three to five years of teaching experience, preferably in the middle grades, or equivalent
  • The drive, organization, and flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment, contributing to the school community beyond the classroom
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to facilitate effective and professional communication with students, parents, colleagues, and supervisors
  • Employment of a variety of teaching techniques (problem-based, project-based, design thinking, etc.), including the meaningful use of technology, to engage students and further their critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity
  • A strong desire to work in a collaborative learning community, employing agrowth mindset both for professional development and as a model for students
  • Desire and ability to develop an atmosphere of trust and knowledge of students as individuals, thus strengthening the lived experience of belonging to practice and embrace Lovett's core values and faith identity
  • Demonstrated flexibility and responsiveness to a variety of learning styles and across a range of abilities, demonstrating dedication to the healthy development of the whole child
  • Ethical behavior, professionalism, strong verbal and written communication skills, and respect for diversity
  • Regular and reliable attendance
