Utopian Academy for the Arts is an independent public charter school serving families throughout Clayton County, GA and Fayette County, GA. Utopian Academy was approved by the State Charter Schools Commission of Georgia and will operate as a Local Education Agency (LEA). The rationale for the enrollment plan for Utopian Academy for the Arts is to provide a significant educational benefit of having a gender-based classroom environment, longer school day, longer school year, Saturday school, and classes in the dramatic, media, and visual arts for students in Clayton County, GA and Fayette County, GA.

Key Role Responsibilities

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Media Arts TV/Film Teacher to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in media arts, with a focus on television and film production, and possess the skills to inspire and educate middle school students in this exciting field. This position offers an opportunity to lead and develop a comprehensive media arts program, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and technical skills among our students.

  • Design and implement a comprehensive media arts curriculum for middle school students, with a focus on television and film production. Develop engaging lesson plans that align with state standards and educational best practices.
  • Deliver high-quality instruction in media arts, incorporating hands-on activities, projects, and multimedia resources to engage students in the learning process. Provide guidance and support to students as they explore various aspects of TV and film production, including scriptwriting, cinematography, editing, and post-production.
  • Oversee the maintenance and organization of media arts equipment and facilities, including cameras, editing software, lighting, and sound equipment. Ensure the proper use and care of equipment by students and staff.
  • Facilitate student-led TV and film productions, from pre-production planning to post-production editing. Supervise and mentor students as they collaborate on creative projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with other educators, administrators, and community partners to integrate media arts into cross-curricular initiatives and school events. Participate in department meetings, professional development opportunities, and curriculum planning sessions.
  • Assess student learning through a variety of formative and summative assessments, including projects, presentations, and portfolios. Provide constructive feedback to students to support their growth and development as media arts practitioners.
  • Stay current with industry trends, technology advancements, and educational research related to media arts education. Pursue opportunities for professional growth and networking within the field.
  • Report directly to the Principal
  • Perform other duties, as deemed appropriate, by the Principal

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year, accredited college or university in media arts education or 10 years industry experience.
  • State teaching certification in Theatre Education.
  • Previous experience teaching theatre in a middle school setting.
  • Strong knowledge of theatre theory and a wide range of theatrical styles.
  • Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
