The Middle School Math department values:

Modeling with mathematics; helping students translate what is in their head into a visual representation, often resulting in a connection to their real word; productive struggle where perseverance is rewarded with learning and problem-solving is viewed as a curious puzzle worth investing one’s time; mistakes as an essential part of the learning process; an environment where students are able to share their errors for analysis; and facilitating students in monitoring and managing their own learning.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Develops curriculum materials, including course outlines, syllabi, and other instructional materials
• Carries out all responsibilities associated with teaching the assigned classes
• Conducts after-school tutorials as scheduled
• Participates in department, faculty, team, and grade-level meetings as called
• Ensures that students adhere to The Lovett School behavioral guidelines
• Is involved in the life of the school outside of the classroom
• Fulfills additional duties as assigned
• Aligning classroom practices and pedagogy with the Lovett Mission, Vision, Whole Child Promise, and the Math Department Values

Position Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field required; master’s degree or higher preferred.
• The drive, organization, and flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment, contributing to the school community beyond the classroom
• Excellent written and oral communication skills to facilitate effective communication with students, parents, colleagues, and supervisors
• Employment of a variety of techniques, including the meaningful use of technology, to engage students and further their critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity
• A strong desire to work in a collaborative learning community, employing a growth mindset
• Desire and ability to develop an atmosphere of trust and knowledge of students as individuals
• Demonstrated flexibility and responsiveness to a variety of learning styles and across a range of abilities
• Ethical behavior, professionalism, and respect for diversity
• Regular and reliable attendance
