Job Title: Nuclear Medicine Technologist
Department: Radiology

The scope of the practice of thenuclear medicine technologist includes but is not limited to the followingareas and responsibilities:

Patientcare: requires the exercise of judgement toassess and respond to the patients need prior to, during, and after proceduresin the nuclear medicine department. Performs patient assessment and screeningwithin scope of practice. Uses a variety of imaging equipment and understandsthe capabilities and limitations of each piece of equipment. Uses the imagearchiving system and maintains an expertise in data and image transfer.Interacts appropriately with patients and all care providers.

QualityControl: Requires theevaluation and maintenance of a quality control program for all instrumentationto ensure its proper performance and stability. Cleans, disinfects, andinspects equipment.

Diagnosticprocedures:requires the utilization of appropriate techniques to ensure quality diagnosticimages and/or laboratory results.

Radiopharmaceuticals: Involves the procurement andpreparation, quality control, dose calibration, identification, documentation,administration, disposal, storage, and safe handling of radioactive material.

RadiationSafety: Educates thepublic with the practicing techniques that will minimize radiationexposure to the patient, general public and health care personnelconsistent.

NuclearRegulatory Committee:Able to correspond respectfully. Provides diagnostic aid to physicians byconducting organ or body scans to patients. Records and administersisotope dosages in accordance with established departmental protocol. Observes patients during procedures and reports any abnormal activity.Follows IAC accreditation guidelines and procedures.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates must posses anAmerican Registry of Radiologic Technologist (AART) or a Nuclear MedicineTechnology Certification Board (NMTCB) NMT certification.
