JOB SUMMARY

The Desktop Support Technician I under the direction of the IT Manager, VPC Support is responsible for installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining the Microsoft Windows and Mac OS desktop and notebook computers, peripherals, iPads, iPhones, Blackberries and other smartphones. The Desktop Support Technician I will work closely with other members of the technology department to support all end users.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide technical training to business unit technology users.
  • Set up, maintain and troubleshoot all OS applications.
  • Set up, maintain and troubleshoot Associate approved company peripherals.
  • Set up, maintain and troubleshoot all approved company peripherals.
  • Maintain inventory of all hardware and software resources.
  • Work with outside vendors as needed.
  • Create and maintain functional desktop images and software Enterprise standards.
  • Provide hardware / helpdesk support.
  • Implement technology solutions to meet business unit needs.
  • Coordinate, resolve issues with current technology solutions.
  • Communicating effectively with driver, mechanics, terminal support and other management team members to resolve issues.
  • Monitor system activity and manage user and system capacities
  • Collect system data and provide information upon request by business unit.
  • Evaluate system requirements as it relates to business needs to seek out synergies.
  • Works closely with drivers, mechanics, terminal support, departmental management and business unit management providing System Administrator and IT Helpdesk support.
  • Document issue resolution using the help desk ticketing system (Altiris).
  • Maintain inventory of all hardware and software resources and parts (Altiris).
  • Maintain excellent communication with all end users and other members of the IT department.
  • Core Distributed and General Business Application Support (MS Office, Lotus Notes, etc.)
  • Troubleshoot virtual images.
  • Assist in troubleshooting network issues at assigned location (wireless networks, WiFi network, network switches, etc.).
  • Provide after-hours support for devices critical to the production operation.
  • Participation in project activities involving computers, iPads/tablets, phones, printers or any other computing / mobile device.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Responsibly receive, transmit, and handle consumer and customer data per applicable policies and procedures.
  • Review and follow data privacy practices, policies, and guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience requirements:

Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; 0 to 2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 0 to 2 years of setup, configuration, troubleshooting of desktop/notebook hardware and software (Windows and Mac OS)
  • Some knowledge of Windows and Mac OS desktops and notebooks, as well as iOS devices, in a networked environment
  • Microsoft Office 2007 and 2010
  • Some knowledge of TCP/IP networking, and related network services (i.e. DNS, SMTP, DHCP, etc)
  • Some knowledge of Active Directory concepts and administration
  • Experience working in a structured, process-driven environment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The associate is very frequently required to move about the office and around the corporate campus. The associate frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; bend; use hands; and reach with hands and arms. The associate should be able to frequently use his/her hands, arms and upper body. The associate must frequently move up to 15 pounds and occasionally move up to 25 pounds. The associate is occasionally required to travel to other sites, including out-of-state, where applicable, for business.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While the job is generally performed in an office environment, the associate is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, areas in which moving mechanical parts, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals are present, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the office environment is typically quiet, but the associate may be occasionally exposed to loud noise levels.

TRAVEL REQUIRED

Minimal travel is required for this position (up to 20% of the time and on a domestic basis).
